This has an awesome mix of 'technology' development, expansion, combat. It's tight and elegant. Just brilliant.

The score board sucks though. It's easy to get over.

Now I have the new version. The wheel made the survival phase more confusing. But all the other improvements made it better (if that was possible..

Just played the first game the other night. I little confussing at the start but once we got the feel of the game we had a grand ol' time. And I won to boot. Have since played many times. Really enjoy this game. Can always get my family to play. Just plain fun.

For as easy as it is to teach, as much fun as it is to play and its relatively short length (60-90min), I can easily get past the luck involved in the game.

11/29/09 Dispite the luck involved in the game Ive won 4 out of 7. The key is to not bid for mutations to high as you are actually bidding with your victory points for end game. Geez, fighting dinos are fun!

7/30/11 A few games ago we stopped playing with the cards. The game will probably stay up around a 9 forever and ever.

I dont mind teaching it. FUN FUN FUN! Up to 10

Love this game!, recently its become my first choice to playing with newbies as an intro to real games--the game basically teaches itself in the first couple of rounds, but has real decisions and challenge once it gets started

I love a game that ends in utter annihilation. Add in cute baby dino's and the concept of "evolve or die out" and life is pretty much perfect. Sigh of repletion.

Great strategy game, the hordes are always fighting for the best spots on the board, the bidding system is brilliant! It plays in a bit more than 1 hour, and it has just the right amount of luck. It is a pity the scoring track is so tiny, with inadequate (thin and tall) markers.

The game is a delightful combination of a beautiful and quick auction process to buy improvements to your dino, followed by moving and birthing dinos around the board into the spaces so that as many dinos as possible survive this turn as possible. There are 4 different "climate" colours on the board, and on any 1 turn, 1 particular colour will allow limitless dinos to survive, and 2 will allow 1 dino only to survive, So it's a competition to get into the limited spaces, and that competition is both fuelled and alleviated by buying improvements, which increase movement, allow you to have more dinos in the limited colours, place more than 1 dino on the board each turn, etc. The auction and valuation of these genes is tricky - they can skew depending on what genes come next (which of course you don't know), so you need to be mindful of paying what an improvement might be worth if the same improvement type doesn't appear again for some turns. Which means the valuations are never easy and a continuing challenge - sometimes you get it right and sometimes not. If someone gets an egg (more births), or a horn (displace a competitor) on the first turn, and no more come out for 7 turns ... we'll, there's the valuation challenge. You want to get the right combination of genes to handle both the expected and the unexpected climate changes each turn. Throw in some event cards and it all comes together neatly in a 60 minute package that offers many interesting choices, a nice competitive level of interaction without nastiness, and a feeling of satisfaction as your dino evolves and outwits, outlasts and outplays the other dinos. Playing the advanced game where 1 less gene comes out ensures premium and competive values are paid on all the genes, but I enjoy both the basic (where you might get some bargains) and the advanced and am happy to play either.

Awesome game with great bits. My students always have fun placing the various tiles that your dino evolves in awkward positions. Another game where there is no one 'best strategy' to follow. Would be a ten, except that it is very hard to catch up when you are behind.

A great dino game, tense bidding, its great fun stomping other players dinos, and of course the rush to head to safe areas can be very funny. I've started to feel having the initiative can be one of the most important factors in the game. It is a game where several strategies could be effective though. A game I'm looking forward top playing many more times

Great game. Right up their with Settlers of Catan for replayability... I particularly like that their are several different competitive elements - the scramble to stay ahead of the changing climate - the bidding - the hunt for a free square...

Multiple plays: The game that led me to the geek. A great theme and fun gameplay. Have a buch of baby dinos and try to keep as many as possilbe from freezing to death or being burnt to a crisp. The auctions get less tense as the game moves on, as players tend to settle for a gene rather than pay for another.

If you like Small World then you should hunt down a copy of this. This game has a similar feel and is just as much fun.

I was expecting a game in which your creature actually transforms into something as you go. More of an adventure game in which you gain and lose abilities over time. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this is nothing like an adventure game and is in fact a clever bidding game mixed with strategic board control. Despite the fact that the parasols still make no sense to me, I really love playing this game and look forward to introducing it to people in the coming months.

The game could do without the tails.

Eggs seem to be super dominant in larger games - especially if some players are doing poorly. When some players leave a lot of slack the high population players can do better than if they faced fierce competition from slower breeding dinos.

There's a lot of interesting decision making behind the flashy and accessible theme. A very interesting take on a hex terrain, a tense bidding system, and a feeling of impending doom with the meteor bearing down on you. A lot of fun, and scales well. Theme has NEVER failed to draw in new opponents, gamers and non-gamers alike. It's one of my best gateway games. I'm very surprised that this isn't one of the first game that people mention when talking about great entry-level games. Well worth owning, if you can find it.

I obviously rate this higher than most people. I can only say that I'm very impressed with bidding on items that actually matter in game play, as opposed to something that is of point value. This isn't the only game to do this, but it's always led to a fun game for me and those I've played with.

Cannot believe I have not rated this yet! Oh I love this. It has bidding, silliness, dinos, bluffing, combat, somewhat confusing mechanics that take awhile to truly understand, and a theme based and unpredicatable ending to the whole thing that creates a sense of urgency. Could never play it enough. N-1 variant.

[Played about 30 times]
Fast paced, tactical game ("react quickly to the situation" is the motto of the game). There's luck, but the game is about minimizing its effect on you. Play with the "variant" (one less gene during auction) to make it a really tense game. Fast paced. Scales well. Cute humorous artwork.
