This game is very deep, and one of the most satisfying 2 player duel games I've ever played. TONS of replayability, and is a fantastic reboot of a classic game. Very glad to be able to deckbuild now that card availability is not an issue. Full disclosure: I am a playtester for the game (AND a computer professional, so the theme is a hit for me), but I wouldn't be so enthusiastic about it if it wasn't consuming my thoughts. Highest of recommendations.

Absolutely amazing game. In most respects better than the original and the team they have on this is doing Garfield's original design justice.

My favorite game to come out in years if not my entire life.

UPDATE: 7 months in and I play this more now than when I first got it. The new isn't close to worn off and I get new people to play with every day. Couldn't be happier with this one (unless maybe organized play came together a little more organically).

UPDATE: Still the best game in my collection - passed over 300 plays and I still won't turn down a game.

UPDATE 2/5/2014: I'm approaching 400 plays now and it isn't close to getting stale. New data packs are something I always look forward to.

UPDATE 6/1/2015: Still the most played game in my collection. And it still surprises me every time I play it. LOVE this game.

Enamoured with the game. The best thing is that unlike other LCG/CCGs the deckbuilding is probably less than half the battle. No matter how good your deck is you still need to play it well to win.

As a fan of the original I can only say that FFG have knocked this one out of the park.

They have improved the game experience (everything is so smooth!), the art and production is incredible, the cards are nice and the factions in the core set make this really easy to just pick up and play with a LOT of variation to tide you over until the chapter packs start to appear.

As with the original player skill trumps card draws and deck construction, although all three will decide the winner over the course of a match. The thematic integration is excellent.

I'm usually an omni-gamer, never getting too deep into one game, but if a tournament scene develops for this game as i hope it will then I'm in.

*Update* The game just gets better with the first couple of chapter packs released increasing the choices and enabling new strategies. My favourite game of 2012, and not looking like anything will overtake it for 2013 so far.

*Update* First expansion cycle finished and C&C big box out and the game is still going strong. 111 plays not including Octgn. Certainly my favourite game of recent years.

I'd been holding off on rating this until I got a decent number of plays of this version under my belt. With Area 42 (Aug 24) and TCEP (LaborDay weekend) finished, I have now played every OOB faction at least once (and a few many more times than once) and can finally drop in a comment.

This is now my 'go-to' 2 player game. OOB this title is phenomenal and every person I've showed it to has been interested in playing more. The experience is spectacular with the provided starter decks and even with the same faction v faction matchups, they didn't always play the same based on the shuffle.

I'll have more of an opinion on constructed play once I've had a chance to do so.

First thing, every competent player can build a good deck and have a lot of fun with only one core set. How is it possible? Because there isn't three copies of each card inside. Thank you FFG.

Now...

This is the game.

This is the game that combines every aspect.
You prepare your resources before the game (deck building).
You play your opponent, not your deck.
You have to manage your resources: cards, actions order, money.
You must bluff, evaluate the risk, take risk, try crazy things.
You can rarely win if you stay in your safety zone.

The game is fast and intense. It plays smoothly. The theme is everywhere.

I'm a big fan of the classic Netrunner. It has a believable theme and incredible mechanisms. It's sad that some cards have broken the game.

Hopefully, Netrunner is back in a better incarnation. The incredible mechanisms are still there, sometime even improved. The broken cards are removed.

Thanks to the factions and the Android universe, the theme is deeper than ever. The anonymous corporations now have a name, a logo, a spirit, strength points, weaknesses, and specific agendas. The runners have also different motives and manners.

The core set is playable out of the box for two players, with 7 decks and a lot of room for deck-building.

For me, this is the most exciting game ever.
Thank you Mr. Garfield! Thank you FFG!

Great, great, great. Took a base game I already loved and revitalized the market for it in a better-produced package. Easily the most successful "FFG treatment" of a property that I've ever seen. I have fun playing it, building it, reading and talking about it. To that end, it's probably my favorite "solo" game too.

After 102 plays, this is probably my absolute favorite two player game. The limiting factor of the game is the knowledge of the other player, so a regular group is key. Having played with only one other player for ~75 games, a meta of 2 is an option, but you really want more than that for the variety of opponents and decks. Additionally, the game can be expensive: two core sets (three if you can swing it) and one of every expansion is going to run you near $200.

However, I did say that this is my absolute favorite two player game and I mean it. Let's get the obvious qualities out of the way: the asymmetric play is a wonderful breath of fresh air. One player is the runner—the hacker—and it's their job to get in and steal agendas from the evil corporation who's either bluffing or attempting to keep the runner out. The runner is constantly prodding and poking the servers, trying to find vulnerabilities and installing programs that allow him to breakthrough the ICE subroutines. The corporation meanwhile is trying to fool the runner to run on traps or damaging sentries.

The fact that each side is so different is the most compelling part of this game, but that's not everything:

- The deckbuilding options are always increasing with an ever expanding cardpool thanks to a regular release schedule of known cards
- The flexibility of play styles are huge: you can sit back and build up a rig, poke and prod early, or try something wildly different; you can build up huge walls of ICE, hurt the runner, make the runner hurt themselves, or find lateral ways of using resources to your benefit
- Economy is a huge factor and it's not always as simple as it seems, there are times when you want less money and there are times when you want more money, pay attention!

If I could only own one game, it would be Cosmic Encounter, but if I could only own two, it would probably be Cosmic and Netrunner.

Wow! I played many ccgs back in the day but missed this one. So happy I got a second chance on the rerelease with an improved format (lcg). The asymmetry is great, I feel like I have the disadvantage no matter which side I am playing. The out of box variety is superb for having so few cards, and the corps/factions all play differently. So far I am loving the deck building and the amount of strategy when playing. This game seems very likely to end up a 9 or 10. Very excited to log a lot more plays and for the expansions.

Edit: Did not update to a 10 for over a year after it deserved it. The best LCG/CCG easily, but it is more than that. It is simply the best game ever made.

Full disclosure: I'm one of the playtesters, and a fan of the original Netrunner.

FFG changed it somewhat, but without violating the spirit of the game. The tracing system has been greatly improved. (Although it's perhaps still not perfect. That's a minor quibble, though.) Even more fun and addictive than the original, which I did not think was possible.

My favorite CCG of the post-MtG era gets the FFG Royal Treatment: Significantly improved artwork, balanced-ish factions with deckbuilding potential, the LCG model instead of digging through packs of boosters for rares. Almost every change from the older version has been a smart one, from reworking the trace and bad publicity mechanics to OOBE decks and a well-designed backstory tied to their Android universe.

And as predicted, the claustrophobic nature of the core set has been significantly reduced by the expansion packs. This game broke the BGG Top 10 for a reason, folks. It's the best reprint of 2012 and my happiest surprise.

ADDENDUM (5/3/2014): There is currently a LOT of noise around the lack of dominant strategies in the game, and how certain identities appear empirically better than others. It might apply to the tournament scene, but as a PvP experience without the scene it's still one of my Top 5 game designs of all time because it actively encourages experimentation... precisely because those so-called dominant strategies are so high-risk/high-reward that a single well-timed play can destroy an otherwise bulletproof strategy.

After reading the rules and following the forums for a few months, I like the concept and asymetrical gameplay. Finally, a game that plays differently than MtG/WhI. I hope that the bluffing aspect of the game will be strong enough to influence the experience.

I am a bit concerned about the number of cards that sit on the table (meaning how much you need to remember to play effectivelly and still enjoy the experience) and the constant calculations (hopefully it is nothing close to Thunderstone, which seemed like an exercise in Maths). It will all be clear in about a month when the games hits the shelves.

Update. Fortunately, my early fears about similarities with Thunderstone were totally wrong. Netrunner plays smoothly and presents the players with many decisions. The games played with the same decks unfold differently based on the initial decisions...

I absolutely love this game. I love that you play the deck, rather than building a deck and having the deck play itself. The bluffing mechanisms and gameplay really shine. There are a multitude of choices on your turn, and you never feel like you lose this game because of a bad draw. You feel like the other player out-witted you, and things would have gone differently if you had played better.

It's been four months since release and we're above 80 plays (making it our most played game, ever) with no signs of slowing down. This is my favorite game of all-time, bar none.

Superclever old CCG remake.

Never played the original but absolutely loved Android: Netrunner! Gameplay is radically asymmetrical, which means both players have a completely different ruleset to follow. The runner needs to build his arsenal effectively and then chose his battles wisely. The corporation is all about bluffing.

Only played with the pre-constructed decks but it's easy to see that deck building will take this to another level.

In the age of the dominion clone and the multi-effect card game, this cult classic feels very novel and imaginative. Richard Garfield is undoubtedly a genius.

My god. Only a couple of plays and I am in LOVE with this one. The only concern is the high amount of on-board complexity can be a turn-off to many players. I eat it right up, though. MOAR PLZ.

Dec 2012: The game remains my most-played. Compact, quick enough, and a whole host of strategy that will have both players biting their nails at every stretch. This game is brilliant. Buy it. Make it a household name. Send it to the top. It is that good and better.

Smegging good cardgame. Asymetric play, bluffing a plenty, both sides feel like they are 5 seconds away from being boned most of the time. Haven't played MtG since i started Netrunner, enough said?

Currently my favorite game. I don't know what to say other than it seems like a perfect 2-player CCG/LCG.

Every bit as good, if not better, as I remember NR'96 being. Fantastic game!

Now here's a solid gold TCG done right. You play the deck, not the other way around, and you're limited only by your ability to out-think and out-maneuver your opponent - not by mana-screws or infinite loop combos and locks.

Theme, bluff, deckbuilding, outguessing, fun, quick,...

I hope the extensions will not ruin an already perfect game

I am rating this game only after having played it more than 30 times.

It is absolutely outstanding! I love asymmetrical games and this one in brilliant. Deck building at its best! The tension of the games is superb - no matter which side you play.
