Awesome game. Rules are simple enough to explain to new players, but allow for quite a bit of strategy. The game involves a ton of negotiation and relies a lot on resource management. Very cool game... Only reason why it's not a 10 is because I think it could use an expansion to allow for more players and increase the complexity a little. Please let me give you more money, YMG.

Wonderful game! Lots of backstabbing and cooperation(Often games just have one or the other) If you like psychology games, this one is for you. Great strategy, and great theme! With art from the Foglio's, you can't go wrong. One thing I really like about this game is that you are never out of the race and you are doing things during everyone's turn. Thus the game never feels like it has any down time.

I first played this game at GenCon 2004 and Loved it. I played several more times during the same weekend and in many cases finding to play just so that I could play it again. I really liked this game because it contained many of the gaming apsects I enjoy, like Diplomacy, Bluffing (Poker), resource allocation, and clever card combos.

Fun stuff. I'll have to give it a few more plays before I really get the hang of the strategy, but I like it a lot even playing cluelessly.

Warning....this game can get BRUTAL with the backstabbing and player-bashing. Don't play it with sensitive types.

A light-hearted negotiation game from a new company that's working hard to oblige. Usually played amid much mirth all round, although like all jokes the humour on the cards gets a little less funny with each repetition. A refreshing change from negotiation games that involve screwing your opponents to the floor.
(Half a point deducted for poor quality components, especially the character and money chits that are coated only on one side.)

if a night of backstabbing and arbitrarily picking on your friends sounds like fun let me know and we'll play a game of this. I love it, but it's not for the weak hearted. One of my favorite aspects of the game is that everything is negotiable and tradeable.

Interesting system where you attempt to increase your own standing with candidates for the throne, who in turn have standing with the current king. Candidates' standings are changed by voting on "intrigues", and whoever commits the most resources gets to exploit the results by applying credit or blame to players, thus changing their standing with the candidates. Win by currying the most favor with the successful candidate. There's unlimited negotiation where anything can be bargained for, as in Traders of Genoa. As with all such games, the quality of the experience depends a lot on the people involved and how quickly negotiations go. And I think it would be a better game if careful husbanding of resources was not so often negated by the chaos of the event cards; ultimately you just don't have enough control. As for the components, the first thing to do is throw out the ranking chits and replace them with chips or stones -- what's the point of having to find a particular chit with a picture of Galahad to mark your progress on the Galahad track?

Good laughs. I especially enjoy the opportunity to be "creative" in negotiations. Unfortunately, my wife doesn't enjoy the game as much.

With the right crowd in a mood to wheel and deal, could be an 8. With a group that is not in the mood to bargain, probably a 5.

I really dig the concept and implementation of the game. Great production qualilty (except the peeling cardboard coins). Clever interplay of mechanics and concepts. Everything is for sale -- how you play or apply a card, how you cast your votes, who you assign blame to... everything can be manipulated for a price or the right favor. You need to carefully balance your position so you don't peak too soon and appear that you're doing too well, or you'll get crushed. A lot more nuance and subtlety than I think most people will give it credit for. Arbitrary and ruthless player targeting is a big part of the game -- so be warned. Grumpy players who hold grudges shouldn't play. Has some of the wheeling/dealing and evokes a slight Cosmic Encounter vibe with me (a good thing).

So far only played with 2 players. I think we missed much of the games charm without more players. I like the free wheeling negotiation element of the game. The theme is a little cynical and perhaps not suitable for all audiences but I generally like it.
