The Co-op/Siege variant is the only way I play Thunderstone. From there, "Legolas v Gimli"-style competition is a pinch of added fun after successfully defending the village.

THUNDERSTONE ADVANCE: ROOT OF CORRUPTION
Despite the poorly folded poster (why no board?) for co-op play, the cards are all top notch.

Co-op option, BUT starting from 3 players. Take note. Not co-op for 2 players.

I didn't play the co-op, but just the regular 2 player game. Nice new cards and abilities, artwork is good as usual.

The paper playing mat looks good, but unfortunately its just sturdy paper which was crudely folded. Not a real problem though. (this mat is for the coop usage only) So you don't need it at all when playing regular Thunderstone. (advance)

I simply refolded it properly with some sharp folding lines. Looks better now.

Nov 2014: Love the Siege Mode. I *will* be creating a 'fold-able hard-board' as a quick project. (when life allows)
Jan 2015: Board not created. It is easier it just just table space. We haven't played much since my Fall UWE and Feld purchases. The 10x10 will get me more plays. It is still my deck-builder of choice.

Thunderstone Advance: Root of Corruption, the second expansion for Thunderstone Advance, introduces new challenges and an all-new way to play: co-op! It also features ruinous sin incarnates, vicious scavenger gnolls, thrall summoners to bring back memorable foes, seven new heroes, six new monster groups, fifteen new village cards, and a new poster map board that creates options for co-op play using existing cards and rules! What's more, all Ambusher cards from Towers of Ruin and Caverns of Bane have been reprinted with updated graphics to increase visibility.

Interesting new mechanics and cards, but comes with a really cruddy paper map for the co-op siege rules variant. I'd gladly pay a little more for a real board.

More Thunderstone Advanced. Got it primarily for the cooperative aspect way to play. My map was fine but a mounted or even cardboard play map would have been a nicer touch over the paper one included.

An exciting set of cards to add, with lots of flavor. My main concern is that there's a prevalence of +disease and disease-management cards in RoC, which isn't quite as present in other expansions. Thus if you're going to play with any of the village cards from RoC, you're likely going to have to add a few more to balance them out.

Siege mode seems a bit easy, at least with three people. We've generally felt quite pressured to go to the Dungeon as often as possible during the game, but our victory margins are consistently +40 or better.

of the two expansions I have, Root of Corruption is the best. It introduces a number of cards that interacts with diseases in interesting ways, revolving around the concept of gaining bonuses at the cost of filling your deck with diseases, but also having heroes that gain bonuses by destroying diseases. Very interesting, tactics-wise, and whenever I play with Towers of Ruins, I make sure to include the cards from RoC because they enrich the game greatly.

Like the expansion before it, I like this one based mostly on the fact that the new cards give the game more variety and extend the life of it.

This expansion, all in all, is disappointing though. They introduce the Guardian mechanic, which is basically a boss you encounter towards the beginning of the game in addition to the Thunderstone Bearer which ends the game. But then they only include one Guardian! The rules say you can also use any Thunderstone Bearers as guardians but between both previous sets there is only 6 and it gets old having to fight the same bosses every game. On top of which this set only includes ONE more Thunderstone Bearer.

It baffles me that they can introduce a mechanic and only give you one card that uses that mechanic. On top of which is it really so hard to design the BBEGs for this game that you can only give us one new one?

They're really not making it easy for me to want to keep playing and purchasing content for this game.

There are also rules for a coop game which I haven't tried yet and yes, the "board" included for the coop campaign is a cheap paper mat. That actually doesn't bother me though, including an actual mounted board would increase the cost of the expansion and really, once you know what piles you need the mat isn't even needed to play the game.

I'll reiterate though, what does bother me is the lack of innovation in the Thunderstone expansions and the lack of certain kinds of content. Mainly Guardians and Thunderstone Bearers.

I like the introduction of a co-op mode, although the board is folded in a weird way so it is nowhere flat when put on a table. I play this game in Epic mode so I don't have any real use of the Siege mode, but the cards are all nice additions to the current stacks.

The new cards introduced in Root of Corruption are a lot of fun, but I can't say I enjoy the new play-mode that much. Also, the fold up map that came in my set was so sloppily fitted into the box that it was warped to the point of not being usable upon unboxing. It's not like you need it to play, but still very disappointing.
