Perfect finish to the series. The coin saves provide a fantastic finale to the series of mechanical plot twists that came with each expansion.

The final Dominion expansion is fairly unspectacular - no flashy exotic cards here, compared with a dozen or so in Dark Ages - but still lives up to the high standards of all the other expansions. Both of the new mechanics (coin tokens which you can save up to spend whenever you want, and getting special effects when buying some cards if you are prepared to spend more than their printed cost) are relatively straightforward mechanically, but lead to some pretty interesting decisions. There's the usual kind of card mix here (some +actions, some +cards, a treasure card, a couple of attacks - although interestingly there is no victory card), and yet the new elements are enough to make them all feel different from already existing cards - an impressive feat when there are now around 200 of them!

Donald X has called this the most skill-based of the expansions, and I think I'm inclined to agree. The big decisions in Dominion are usually what to buy and when, although there are more than a few cases, particularly with the later expansions, where it's not totally obvious how to play each hand either. Guilds extends this to when to cash in coin tokens for extra buying power, and whether to buy that Gold or overpay by 3 for that 3-cost card for a cool "overpay" effect. I suspect this would actually be an excellent expansion for those relatively new to Dominion and who like meaty decisions without lots of potentially confusing card interactions.

I'm not as much of a fanboy as I used to be, but I still love Dominion and I will be getting this.

These previews look amazing. I'm getting this as soon as it's released.

Just as imagined, the coin tokens add a deeper planning element to the game, more than just deciding which cards to buy.

Great expansion. I'd probably rate Guilds higher if it had been a larger expansion.

I wish the ideas in this expansion could have been explored a little further. Still there's a lot of bang in this box.

I think an expansion to Dominion would just have to be a box full of blank cards for me to dislike it. I haven't played with all the cards in this expansion yet, but I like the couple of new mechanisms. Having cards that you can overpay for is a good idea, and I like some of the different benefits you get for overpaying. Also the cards that let you rack up money to be spent later are quite interesting. Nothing really dramatic changes with these cards, but that's OK in a mini expansion. I just enjoy exploring the infinite combinations I can now create with all my expansions to one of my favorite games. As usual, these cards will be mixed in for all future random kingdom deck draws, and I look forward to seeing what else they have to offer. Because it's more stuff for one of my favorite games it's going to get a perfect rating. Of course if you don't like Dominion, this isn't going to change your mind.

Guilds is by far the best expansion to Dominion yet (along with Prosperity and Seaside.)

How dare DX say this is the last expansion for Dominion! I will never forgive him! Ever!

A great idea to have cards that allow you to bank money. I especially enjoy loading up on Baker's. I would mind having a Baker's dozen in my deck. Another excellent addition to Dominion.

Guilds is a 1/2 size expansion like Cornucopia and Alchemy. The new added mechanics are cards that allow players to store coins between turns as well as cards that provide benefits for overpaying when buying them. I need to play it more to get a good feel for the set, but my initial response is very positive.

Interesting small expansion.

The central mechanics of using coin tokens and overpaying are easy to pick up, but they still add another layer of interesting choices.

There doesn't seem to be a real game-changing card.

The "overpay" triggers, and the spendable coins add some interesting dynamics to the game. The overpayment veers the series probably the closest to its Magic: The Gathering ancestry as any mechanism in it has, but it can lead to some wickedly rewarding combos with other Guilds cards.

Adds some really great new mechanics with the introduction of coin tokens and overpaying. I wish that this expansion were larger, so that we could see more cards with these mechanics, but overall, this is a fantastic note for the Dominion franchise to end on.

Initial Rating: 9.0 (November 2013)

I love Dominion, so it is no wonder I love this new expansion. I have played so little of it that I have not seen all the cards yet but is seems like a great expansion. Still I really like the coin tokens (which you can spend later) and the “overpay mechanic” which can generate some interesting decisions.

For now I want to play with it again.

I definitely like this one, though I think Guilds is best in a mix, rather than an all-Guilds layout. The two new features here are cards that generate coins which you can hoard and use to help buy things later, and cards that you can optionally overpay for and get some additional benefit proportionate to the amount of overpayment. (The latter is a bit like Hinterlands, but optional.)

The thing that strikes me most about Guilds so far is how much it speeds up the game tempo. This is largely because of the coins. All those times when you have 7 to spend and are gnashing your teeth with frustration suddenly become Provinces with a coin from your hoard. So it's a bit of an adjustment to the pace.

This is my favourite of the half-expansions. The coin tokens give you some interesting decisions. The overpay mechanic is easy to understand, although it does make some of the card text pretty long when you're still learning the cards.
