Makes a nice change of pace from Scrabble. Get the version with the 10x10 board.

this game is great fun, but i think if it had scrabble's scoring system it would be even better.

Excellent 2-player game, and good for 3 or 4, too. The game of choice for us empty-nesters.

Note to Hasbro: Please publish a travel version of this game!

Nov 2012: Finally found a travel version of this game in Switzerland (named Topword). Because the version available there was in German, I bought two copies so that I could create a tile mix better suited to play in English. Best part, the travel version only cost 5 CHF!

One complaint I have about the travel version is that the tiles are way too thin; it's hard to pick them up.

This is possibly my favourite word game. Upgraded the rating from 8 to 10.

Aug 2010: I have a new found respect and love for word games. Upgraded from 5 to 8.

More tactical and thus more fun than Scrabble. When I play word games, I want to make words. I don't want to think about rack management, trying not to open up the board to my opponent -- in other words, Scrabble has too much strategy that gets in the way of forming words!

Because Upwords has more ways to make words, to me it's simply more fun! In this game, playing one tile can score you a lot of points! I have to find the 10x10 version; I only have the 8x8 one.

Feb 2006: A less demoralizing variant of Scrabble, since the tile-laying rules are more flexible. Still, it’s basically Scrabble and I despise that game.

An excellent word construction game with a quality board and components. A seperate victorypointtrackboard would had been a nice addition to the game. (Hasbro/Parker Brothers version)

Love this game better than Scrabble. Don't need to be a crossword geek to excel. The 8x8 version is perfect for 2 players

Nice for a change of pace from Scrabble. Almost a 10, but something about the scoring makes it a bit bland for me-- I miss the Scrabble letter values and board bonuses!

This game is hard! It's like Scrabble but you have to fit the words into a much smaller space. With experience it becomes competitive as you can see your opponent's scoring opportunities and try to make words to block them, and that reveals a whole new way of thought.

you might think that because you can build up, it would be *easier* than scrabble. You would be wrong.

I like this game a lot. Being a crossword-loving foreigner, I cannot manage Scrabble on the level of native speakers, but this is perfect. I can definitely find loads of words to change.

My buddy and I have an ongoing rivalry with this game. Quite fun and outshines Scrabble in its options for wordplay.
