The Dunwhich Horror is the only expansion for Arkham Horror that I would consider a necessary addition. It adds a ton of new options and fun new mini-boss to fight. The gate bursts add some much needed difficulty and unpredictability, while the new board forces the investigators to move around a lot more. The injury and madness cards are a stroke of genius, as they give the investigators a little bit of help by lessening the death penalty in exchange for a permanent stat penalty. It's a great idea that not only works well, but adds a ton of flavor to the game. If you don't typically buy expansions, you might want to make an exception here. This one does a nice job of making Arkham Horror a better, more challenging game.

LOVE this expansion. Best of all the expansions. new areas to visit and the bursting gates! Who can pass this up. Not to mention the ability to fight the dunwich horror which is the best Lovecraft story in my opinion.

Holy Schmoly with this and the Curse of the Dark Pharaoh Expansion the amount of cards on the table becomes obscene- I'm glad that I have a huge table, I can't imagine anyone trying to play this game on a regular size table. Arkham is all about the chrome and Dunwich just piles it on. There are so many features to the game now that the likelihood of experiencing a similar game experience to one you'd played before is virtually impossible. There is so much going on here that I haven't even see many of the features to this expansion. Perhaps an argument against the expansion would be one of conspicuous consumption, but it is just so satisfying to see the stacks and stacks of cards.

Anyway, from my experience with the expansions the items are fun, the "fixes" for the old game are appreciated, the new board has some good things going on, and the Dunwich Horror adds another level of tension, the wounds crack me up and the objective cards also allow for some fun choices.

The only reason I don't give this a 10 is that if you beat the Dunwich Horror, you are asked to pick any card you'd like from any deck. Are they crazy? Someone could take an hour looking through all the decks. I say they have one minute to pick a card.

The one essential addition to Arkham Horror. It ups the difficulty for those who have got used to the style of the base game, and has enough new stuff to keep even a seasoned Arkham veteran guessing for a good time to come.

It loses the last point only because it is so good! I can't stand the thought of diluting it's influence with any more expansions, so at least for me it's cut off the game's own potential for collecting more!

EDIT: Now disproven! I caved in and bought Innsmouth Horror, and while it changes the feel of the game again playing with Dunwich as well it *doesn't* dilute it too much or make the experience any less enjoyable. Also blame RandomGraham for prompting me to rearrange my priorities about giving 10s!

Played this expansion several times. It certainly raise the feeling that the threat on Arkham have increase a lot and give the game a more eerie feeling.
This expansion fixes a lot they missed in the base game. I like the new cards and the possibility to take "Injury" and "Madness" instead of being sent to the hospitals.
If you like the base game this should be on your to buy list.

Haven't managed to win yet.

Some games you never even visit the Dunwich portion of the board but the additional cards and monsters make it a much more complete game.

Very enjoyable expansion for Arkham Horror. I like the variant where different injuries and psychological defects can be taken in the place of the usual death or madness procedure. Has a few cards that contain errata, as well as some additions to spells, items, and such.

The mythos cards that allow sealed gates to be broken through are brutal, but can make the game very tense all the way until the end. In fact, I couldn't see playing without these, as it fixes some strange conditions that can occur in the base game (such as many gates sealed, but the board is overrun by monsters, essentially resulting in a stalemate). Essential for the fan of Arkham Horror.

It's cool to have another town to explore, and the threat of the Dunwich creature is a new challenge. Love some of the new investigators, and a few of the new GOOs are super tough.
Those madness and Injury cards are key to making AH an easier game.

This seems like an indispensable addition to the AH set, as the madness and injury cards are nice additions and the new encounters are generally quite flavorful.
Many of these can be added even without the new board if space is an issue. However the new board and locations just adds to experience in my opinion.

Best expansion (big or small) by far. If I could only play with one, it'd be this one. Adds the injury/madness cards to take in lieu of losing half your stuff and clue tokens. Very thematic as well.

The Yog-Sothoth expansion—we play with the Big Y and Dunwich Horror herald.

Better than the base game alone, if by "better" I mean more uncontrollable wailing with less courageous investigators begging the brave for sweet release.

The new Injury & Madness cards are great—now when you go to zero Stamina or Sanity you can choose to dump half your stuff (Items & Clues) or end up with a crippled something-or-other or a mental illness instead. Ha-ha! That'll learn ya!

We play with one expansion at a time, so, Dunwich Horror alone, with Yog-Sothoth as the Great Old One...

Almost required to fully enjoy Arkham Horror. Although that may not say the most about the base game itself, the base game with this expansion is fantastic.

The MUST-HAVE expansion for Arkham if you're getting tired of the original set. A new board section with five added gate locations and nine new areas in all, two new other worlds, new investigators, new ancient ones... this just makes the game bigger, when the largest problem in the original game was that it was too small for more than four players, this can add a desperate scramble to keep the gates closed before too many are open and the game ends. The new Ancient Ones are rock-solid terrifiying to face, and the new investigators are amazing. Also wonderful are the addition of Madness and Injury cards, for when your investigator becomes incapacitated, they can gain a random disability for the entirety of the game rather than just losing items. It speeds up the pace of the game, and (once again) adds some fantastic theme to the room.A must-have if you're getting tired of the original Arkham experience.
