Best game I know of its kind (luckfree strategic tile placement for two players).
We play with a homemade "Mars Attacks" Edition, which adds considerably to the fun.

Another Knizia tile placement game. Make a board, some tiles, get some counters, and apply your own theme. How about two publishers battling for the rights to rerelease piles of old games.

Not good reviews, but I like Herr Knizia's games.
Update: It is indeed a good game. If you like Knizia, you'll like this. Theme is obviously weak and the production value isn't the best. But it DOES have the elegance with numbers just like lots of Knizia games.

This is a nice abstract numbers game. I like that the tower placements can impact your opening play so much. Some will say the theme is pasted on, and it is, but I guess they would rather look at black numbers on white squares??? At least the graphics are very nice and more importantly the game is sound.

Fun game. The best part is that having a flexible strategy really helps when seeing what the other people are doing. In the 2 plays so far I took 2 very different approaches, and had good results both times. Simple rules, and a great filler.

I can't believe how low this game is rated! I am a fan abstracts, but this one is definitely pretty good. Great weight and playtime. I've only played it once, so I'm not sure about how deep the strategy goes. I really enjoyed it though.

I quite like this game. All the information is open (unlike hidden or random tiles/cards in Samurai) and the decision space (vacant board spaces x number of available tiles) is much smaller. I also like how unlike every other spot on the board, the black castle space has goes to the player who exerts the least influence on it. It really makes the placing in that region very tricky. I'd definitely be up for playing this more.

Don't really see the need to call it "Atlaneon". If you were to call it,"Surround your opponent with high numbers and capture them while possibly capturing desired locations while you're at it," I think that would be far more of a justifiable title...but I guess "Atlanteon" sounds dangerous and undeniable. Fun game that's simple and intriguing.

I have to agree with almost everything in the Tom Vasel review that encouraged me to buy the game. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Caveat: you need to play with someone at about your same level of proficiency. I am a bit better at the "block your buddy" strategy than my wife or friend with whom I play this game. I tend to win on the last few markers or the occasional surprise king stealing. I play this game with Cody, a kid from my game club, because we are close enough that we win by a marker or two each.

One of Reiner's "surround and conquer" games, like (Kings Gate or Samurai). I like those. This is specifically for 2 players, and plays well, for the most part. It seems easy to tie, which never makes me happy, but that is really the only flaw.

Interesting but fast strategical game. I would probably be much more appreciated with a "gipf-project" coating. I consider this among the very good recent abstract, unfortunately plagued by a bad theme. You must play the advanced rule, where a tile can be claimed before it is surrounded.

Still in the exploration stage. The rating is based on the desire to play the game until I've determined as others that the game is some sort of bizarre tic-tac-toe variant.

After 8 plays still find this game to be a fun little brain-burner that satisfies the abstract itch.

A good abstract from Knizia: simple to learn, quick to play.
A "must have" for any fan of chesslike games.
Similar to Knizia's Kingdoms, but completely diceless... Obviously, as in other Knizia's games, the theme (the "atlantis flavour") is completely useless.

July 21, 2010 -- I'm gaining new respect for this game after playing with a friend who really takes strategy to heart. There's more to this game than there at first seems, and plays can be made to force your opponent to make some hard choices ... or play into your hands. Originally I had this as a 6/10 rating, but I'm bumping it up to 7/10.

6 plays. This is a keeper. Sometimes feels a bit like Samurai, sometimes like Chess. Since you're unable to move your pieces, its plots develop quickly. The 3 ways to win drives hard decisions. The initial castle placement determines a lot, too. I think the variable castle placement counters the "Solvable" argument. PS. The Marauders are misunderstood. Don't believe the Guardian propaganda!

A nice little game with a lot of strategy involved in how and when to place your pieces on the board. And since there are many different strategies you can use to gain victory, there is a lot of replayability in the game. Just don't play it if you don't like games where you have to consider many moves ahead for that is essential to the game.
