great game, just need to find the right set of houserules for your group. We play with 3 global quests, 1 personal quest, and the map revealed at the start of the game.

Completely card-based dungeon romp that is always enjoyable to play. The amount of gameplay that is packed into such a small space is unbelievable (why can't more games take up so little storage space?!)

Luck-heavy but there are optional rules to help keep the balance (build map before playing, movement restrictions, etc.).

NOTE: Publisher's website has updated rules & FAQs which are definitely worth reading.

WARNING: Requires separate dice & counters (preferably red & green).

Dungeoneer is a card-driven "dungeon" delving role playing game where players build the map, complete quests, and accumulate glory and peril as they traverse the map. Glory is spent by the player to gain items and abilities for their own hero, while peril is spent by their opponents to cause them to overcome traps and face monsters. Players always know how much peril and glory they have accumulated, thus they can know how much opposition they may face. Each game is a standalone game but they can be combined.

Epic Dungeoneer takes the heroes from levels 4 through 7, either extending the normal game or offering a faster standalone experience. Like Tomb of the Lich Lord this game is set in a dungeon and tuned to go up against the undead. Unlike Tomb of the Lich Lord this game adds the actual Lich Lord as a monster to fight, and giving the victor the ability to control the Lich Lord.

Good game! Buy it if you are a Dungeoneer fan or not. For me (I own all other sets) too much duplicated cards from other sets.

Played once combined with the Tomb of the Lich Lord set, using the new set of rules (which are not so clear...). Interesting but a bit too much long... As a stand alone it hasn't much sense: it's the same game, simply upgraded on all fronts.

These are all fun dungeon crawls, and we own them all now--not because we play them constantly, but rather because it is fun to vary them up to keep the crawling interesting and fun. I'd be up for playing whenever someone else wanted to play, but only sometimes offer it as an option myself.

Yikes! What is going on here! Give me back my low-level scrub trying to eek out a living killing skeletons. This game rocked my world it was SO difficult. In one game, none of the battles were even close. "You need to role an 11 on one 6-sided die...to TIE!" The LichLord is a beast...he's almost just a cruel joke. Plus, there's an event which will eventually end up adding 3 to all undead attacks. Even with 12 life points the heroes were getting creamed. The more unbalanced a hero was in their stats, the worse off they were. It's useless to have 6 in magic, if all of the attacks come at you in might (although there is the counterattack). Plus, there are monsters that attack with their SPEED, and there are much fewer modifiers in this category. I don't know if I'm going to come back to this one anytime soon. [Update: O.k., so after a few more plays, it isn't as hard as I thought, you can win via quests and you can kill stuff if you have some decent items. So, I say, go for it! The Lich Lord is still a beast, though.][Update 2: Turns out I was playing the Lich Lord incorrectly, just as I would a typical monster. But he lives at the Throne of Despair...so again, not as tough]

After just 1 play on its own, without combining it with other sets.

Not so good/exciting as earlier sets (except for Dragons of the Forsaken Desert). Not sure why - is it really worse or is it 'it's the same again' syndrome.
I think it might shine in Epic mode (start with basic set and expand your character with Epic Dungeoneer).

Good adventure card game, particularly with the combination Den of the Wererats and Haunted Woods of Malthorin as wilderness world and the epic set Call of the Lichlord as dungeon for further levels. It's very interactive because you act as Dungeonlord as well as Adventurer.

The fifth Dungeoneer double deck that I've bought and an element of diminishing returns has set in. Call of the Lich Lord doesn't really show me anything new. Thematically, it does have hoards of the undead, but what's new about that? In its favour, this might be the toughest challenge of the series; every life point is precious.

Lich Lord's artwork is reasonable. The monsters seem less soft focus than in some of the other decks, albeit that there is still nothing to frighten the children. Card quality is OK. The rules remain a bit of a muddle.

I got this because I loved Tomb of the Lich lord. Was a little dissappointed that the Room cards seemed too much like an up-jumped version of the Tomb room cards; was expecting more devious rooms and different effects. However, it's got some cool cards. Need to play more to establish a better feel over this game.

Giving this a tentative 7. It's got a lot going for it on the surface—portability, theme, art—but the simple system feels just the littlest bit clunky. If it smooths out with more plays, I could see this being a staple... we will see. (2-player with adult, 3-player with kids. Everyone had a good enough time.)

Dungeoneer is a light-weight dungeon crawl that has some interesting mechanics. As players move through the dungeon, they accumulate Peril and Glory points. Each player, during their turn, can by spend another's Peril to play monsters, traps, etc., against that player. This novel mechanic eliminates the need for a dungeon master. Unfortunately, the rules could be better written for clarity.

A bit fiddly; needs house rules to add to the sense of exploration and clean up some unnecessary record keeping. Also needs a much better rulebook (available here on BGG!). Probably a 7 with those modifications.

Still, it's a portable, competitive dungeon crawl for 2-3 (4 is pushing it) in an hour's playtime. That's pretty nice right there. The nice art and flavor text are bonuses.

Decent expansion. I like the idea of taking characters to epic levels but the expansion contains too many cards that are either redundant or the same as the tomb set. All the corridor cards are the same. Should have added more variety to the game. Somewhat unispiring.
Update: After a few plays, I had to lower my orignal rating of 7 to a 5. As a stand-alone game, I rate it around an 8. As an expansion to the dungeoneer franchise, it is just more of the same. Atlas really missed the boat on this one. They should have put more effort and creativity into its making.

Combat / Hand Management / Monsters are all really really badly explained.

Based on the reading of the rules alone, this plays better as a standalone instead of an expansion. It seems that it can't integrate well with a base set.

Wanted to get this game to play solo and maybe get the wife to play a game or two. Accidentally got this instead of Tomb of the Lich Lord, which I would prefer to play first since it's the first game and (in my mind) would be a bit easier to play. Gunna try to get that first before introducing it to the SO.

Call of the Lich Lord is a two- to four-player Dungeoneer card game. Your character explores a dungeon that you build with map cards, while fighting monsters, completing quests, and leveling up along the way. Each Dungeoneer set can be played as a stand-alone card game, or combined with other decks for more dungeon-delving fun. Call of the Lich Lord is the first Epic set for Dungeoneer, which lets you advance your favorite heroes from previous sets to higher levels, or play just with the new characters from this set who begin at 4th level! Call of the Lich Lord features 110 Dungeoneer cards, including Epic-level undead-themed monsters and six Epic-level heroes for your Dungeoneer game. 2-4 players, 20-30 minutes per player, ages 12 and up. 6-sided dice and tokens not included. May be used to expand: Dungeoneer: Tomb of the Lich Lord
