I got this game as a beta back in the day and spread it like wildfire through my city. I have no idea where it is now however. I rate this at 10 because for me it was the beginning of all gaming "beyond Monopoly."

This is a fun little game, and after you play a couple games, you can develop a feel for the strategy needed to punish everyone else who is playing. Maybe a little violent, but that is a large part of its charm. And drunks can play along with everyone else, which is a good thing in my (unfortunate) playing circles.

Never had any problem teaching this to new players or getting them into the swing of things - it's a good lightweight game. I think the suggestion to take out the choke and headlock cards is a good one; they're much more complicated than anything else in the game and are rarely played (they're just not that good). Plays well with 3-5, gets a little awkward past that (even with multiple sets shuffled together). Probably played it a hundred times or more back in the day.

Comments:
One of the best card games ever made, bar none. Does it need a theme? No. Do you need to roleplay to have fun playing this game? No, but some find it makes the experience better. At it's core Lunch Money is a simple game of beat the crap out of everyone else. Card combos are what you are looking for, and the ability to be versatile and think long term can be really big plusses in this game.

A big drawback to the game though is the lack of instructions on cards for what each card can and can't do. Honestly it makes the game unfun for most first time players (especially playing against those who do know what they do). I wish Atlas would just buck up and make a deluxe version of the game with cards that have instructions for play, they would probably find a lot more willing customers that way.

Viva Lunch Money!

A wonderful game that would definitely have benefited a lot from better card design. As it is, you have to play two or three rounds (and leave out Choke and Headlock) to get into gear, but then at least I won't stop playing anytime soon.

Played 20+ times.

This is one of the greatest card games in existance!! I love the theme of the game. The play is excellent. It has enough strategy to entice the serious gamer and enough luck to give the casual gamer a chance. Everyone I have introduced to this game has become addicted. I recommend it to all gamers!!

Perhaps somewhat appropriately, a perfect lunch game. Recreates a schoolyard bully fight. Hard at first to remember what all of the cards do, but once you learn them the combos come fast and furious. Not for people who hold grudges in games. For example, my wife starts every game by hitting me. I still love her.

Fun, quick-playing screw-your-neighbor game. Theme and artwork is deliciously dark. Would have been helpful if they had included card power descriptions on each card, but I guess this would lessen the creepy effect of the artwork on the cards.

Plays 2-4. You invariably will want house rules. The ruleset is flexible and the actual deck content can be modified to taste. For new players remove choke and headlock. Best filler game ever.

It may be the lack of creativity in describing violence that sets this game back for some but my friends and I relish in coming up with some of the most heinous acts and verbally inflicting them on each other. The one big fall back was that the game does suffer from the "look back" syndrome. For the first few games you do have to constantly look back at the rules to make sure that you have the combos correct but it really is a fun , albeit disturbing, game.
