Fun and challenging until you deduce the winning approach, at which point it's best to pass it on for the next players to enjoy the challenge.

Some people complain about this game being 'too easy' and also say that 'you win every time.'

This is true if you think of it as "I have ten tries to get it right." That's not the way you should think about this game. Think of it as a contest between you and your opponent. My brother and I would play matches of five games and whoever scored the lowest amount of guesses wins.

Another thing we did to add challenge was ADD DIFFERENT COLORED PEGS. I have three copies of this game, one of them being Advanced Mastermind which adds another slot for pegs. (five as opposed to four) So I took out the different colored pegs from the others and added them to my advanced copy.
Blank space, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, white, black. Having ten different colors and five peg slots I can still solve it in less than ten every single time. They need to make SUPER ADVANCED MASTERMIND with six different slots. Now that would be a challenge.

Much maligned for no good reason. The people who say it's "solved" are only right in that some rare people can play it perfectly...but I doubt it's detractors can. Great lopsided game of deduction.

I love this game, it will never grow old. If there was an on-line version, I'd download it. Actually I think there was something similar that we played on our old PC way back in the late '80's. Some kind of command line thing, punch in a bunch on numbers and just keep trying until you got the 4 digits correct. That one I could play more often, didn't require someone else to be around to actually play against.

Where did that orange colored peg come from? I don't remember that in the original. Perhaps that's the expansion version.

I credit this game with my high IQ, getting so much practice as a kid having to puzzle out and prove how I could deduce the solution based on guesses in order to be able to play this game by myself since I was alone so much turned out to be the same sort of skills used on all those IQ tests in school. I have cynicism about IQ tests, but not this game, I love it.

Mastermind is a classic game that is great for a quick, head-to-head game. We've also taken it on scout camps and the boys love challenging each other.

A great game for helping elementary school aged children learn logic and have fun at the same time. Still fun to play as an adult once in a while. Hopefully your opponent scores your codebreakers correctly, i.e. awards you the proper number of blacks and whites.

Beautifully simple deduction game. We usually play 4 holes, 8 colours. Rosie usually beats me, but it must be luck. I wroth a computer programme, which proves my way is better. So why do I still lose?

I see that Mastermind has a low rating, but I love it. It's a great, no-frills game to keep your deductive reasoning skills sharp. Sure, everyone knows the "trick," but KNOWING the trick doesn't mean you don't make stupid mistakes.

Play occasionally to keep your mind sharp; it's fast, and setup is easy.

The first logic game I learned. A great game when you are tired of rolling dice (random numbers) determining your outcome, but easier to learn to master than chess.

I have an original Invicta Version and a Pressman Version.

This is a great couples game. Although there is not a lot of direct interaction, it is a good game to play when you are sitting around in front of the TV. Don't overlook it because it is a "common" game. If you haven't played, pick it up.

A classic that is more of a puzzle than a game. But as logical puzzle go, this is still a nice one. I'm looking forward to play this with my kids when they're a bit older.

Don't know that this is a "game" so much as an "activity". Having said that I think it's a fun exercise in deductive reasoning and problem solving. Great little puzzle that requires not only the solver, but a "master" to provide feedback on guesses.

Great for kids!

"Break the hidden code." I discovered the "mini" version of this game on my Dad's dresser and the two people on the cover intrigued me (plus the fact that it said "Game of the Year"). My brother and I learned how to play it and were hooked. My own kids also went through a phase where they really enjoyed it. I remember how after a while we started losing pieces so we instituted a "no puzzles using just one color piece" rule (for fear we'd run out of a particular color before all the turns were up!) I'm still intrigued at the cover, however: it's so James Bond-ish. "My Vietnamese whore and I will kill you, Mr. Bond, if you refuse to play me at Mastermind!"

Parece mais um solitario que necessita do apoio de uma outra unidade do que um jogo a dois como inicialmente parece. Pode muito bem ser o rei dos jogos de deducao e esta ao alcance de todos; com um pouco de treino todos se podem tornar mestres...
