A wild and fun hidden roles game. The straightforward battle between two sides is really thrown for a loop by neutrals with their own agendas. Make no mistake; this is a game with lots of luck and little balance. Its just crazy fun. Makes for a very talkative, energetic and lively session.
+Hidden Teams+

House rules:
* Custom characters - see file on BGG!
* Characters can only reveal to use their special ability or for a card.
* Allie - can only heal at the start of her turn and only heals to 4.
* Unknown - can use cards that refer to Hunters (Advent and Spear of Longinus)

Great game but setup is a chore. Otherwise can get really tense unless a neutral wins it early. Player elimination is a downside to an otherwise great casual/party game.

Just awesome. I love secret roles and variant objectives. The rules are really simple to teach and everyone I've taught it to has picked it up and jumped right in after the first turn. That it plays 8 makes it great to pull out with whoever is around. Also, the fact that you get to shred each other makes for a ton of fun situations.

An awesome semi-cooperative deduction game, with some similarities to Bang! but done a lot better, and with clue cards (called "Hermit Cards" in the game) to help identify who is on your team.

It scales pretty well from about 5 to 8 players, however it's one of those games that's definitely better with more people.

Probably my groups favorite game to end the night. Totally replaced the game "Bang!" for me. The hidden roles work really well, and you really have to spend time figuring out who your teammates are. Plus it plays fast enough that we'll often just deal out two sets of roles and play it twice. The only down side is that it's a little harder to teach new players, since each neutral role is totally unique - and if they don't understand them all before you deal them out then they won't be able to ask questions without giving themselves away.

I like this game a lot, but I understand why some people hate it so much. The unbalanced characters don't bother me. I feel that the unbalancing makes the game more tense and force players to correctly time reveal their characters.

I like the randomness with the items, but incorporated a house rule to where players can hold on to one instant card, but have to choose which one happens if they pull another instant card.

Like everything I hear about it and definitely will purchase it extremely soon. So Ill list it as owned. Ill update sometime about how much I liked it though IM sure I will.

MUST OWN CAN NOT FIND

like Once upon a time, Aye Dark Overlord, Are you the Traitor/Werewolf, the Resistance or any similar game, these are perhaps my favorite genre of game. They REQUIRE the right group. Right group is a euphemism for people who actually have some inkling of roleplaying, charisma, fun, wit, humor, exuberance, and amicability than this game wins wins wins. Which also means that if your group doesn't like these games, it might be time to get new friends rather than a new group because it's literally their fault and not the brilliant game.

Finally purchased--need to play this game!

I've played this game now and it compared to Samurai Sword in some ways and what I suspect BANG the bullet is like. I like it a lot. It's not as strong as Resistance but it's different enough that they're both worthwhile. Like Samurai Sword this game combines the social/bluffing game with the traditional board game.

This game takes about 5 minutes to teach, yet the game play is fantastic. There is limitless replay value as you try to figure out friend from foe from someone who will just stab whoever is weakest. For new players, I would recommend being as aggressive as possible. In every game there are more opponents then there are friends, so attacking someone at random is usually a good thing.

This has been my favorite game for the past 2 years and I can play it any time, even when I'm not in the mood to play games. My non-gaming friends request it often and I always end up enjoying it. I almost never record plays but I have played this over 100 times. We have also played with up to 11 people even though it says up to 8. Just find 2 matching chits to use for health and location and you are good to go. It takes a bit longer much not too much when everyone knows what they are doing.

After playing it 12 times with friends, went and got my own copy. It's been wildly popular with 2 of my circle of tabletop gamers. Plays best with 5 or more.
Plays hilariously with 4 when character card dealer inadvertently hands out only shadows at the beginning of the game.

A rare impulse buy, based almost exclusively on Ubarose's engaging review on Fortress: Ameritrash...

http://fortressameritrash-boardgames.com/index.php/Reviews/S...

Just played 2 4-player games tonight and was very impressed. It's easy to learn and yet thoroughly entertaining. And while it's obvious that this game's sweet spot is probably 6-8, all of tonight's players were more than happy with the way it played with four, and would have gladly played several more games, had we not broken this out at the END of the evening. It's a definite winner and may well prove to be as much of a group favorite as Cash & Guns.

Update: It's great with just about any number of players. I was, however, wrong in my original prediction... this is FAR more popular than Cash & Guns in my game group. Pretty much an ideal filler or warm-up game, it's always interesting and fun! I've updated my rating from an 8 to a 9, accordingly.

Sleeper hit, at least for me. This is a fantastic game of hidden identities, a bit of deduction, and machine guns. It can be played in 30 or 40 minutes and even those who are eliminated are still in the game -- and enjoy watching, coaxing, etc. This is a more the better sort of game, so with 4 it would not be much fun.

This is begging for an expansion. More weapons, more characters, more everything!

Very neat game that takes one of my favourite mechanics (hidden identity) and bases the whole game around it. Comparable to Bang, but much faster in turnplay and it doesn't suffer from the vast number of flaws that Bang does. Playable 3 or 4 times per evening with a good group!

I was hoping for a little more intrigue and deception in this one, but for a short, easy "hidden role" game, it's a lot of fun.

08/02/2009 - Bumping this game from 8 to 9. I've introduced it to a couple of groups containing non-gaming members, and it's been a hit every time. This is truly a gem of a game that exercises the social/interaction aspect of gaming, in a "whodunnit" atmosphere.

What a fun group game!!! Very fast, simple to learn and play, has good elements of strategy/deduction, low downtime, great interaction. A group of six played this game a good 15+ times in the last three days. The only reason it doesn't get a 10 is because we implemented some simple errata of our own to balance the roles - for example making Daniel only 8 hit points (it's amazing how much more relevant he becomes), making Emi/Unknown have 14 to offset their weak powers, and reducing the HP of other high-power characters. With our errata we have found it to be quite balanced and incredibly fun. Easily my favorite "party" type game and the only one that everyone jumps to play.
