1 play, 5er, VASSAL. Not bad, I suppose.

Major changes:
- more board space (map added to rust belt)
- multiple players may build interurban links, cost = $2 + $1 per other players link already present
- constrained building at first; until someone reaches one of 3 cities, all tracks must be contiguous. Also, may only build as many tracks as current turn number.
- no goods growth: all cities seeded at start, and new cities come with cubes when placed (Production as normal)
- no engineering; instead, marketization = may move a cube through one city of its own color

Neat ideas, but I'm not sure I like how you're forced to build all bunched up on the east coast at the start of the game. I definitely don't like the fact that you end up using all the sharp curves early on (because of the continuous rule, and coastal city locations) -- I think the track-limit rule is totally nonsensical!

I thought that the adjacent city hexes made this game excessively fiddly, plus it made it difficult to interpret the rules when stuff got urbanized. "Marketing" is a good concept, but was largely useless. On the plus side, this map definitely had room for six.

This expansion is great for higher player counts as the map is huge. You're limited to the number of links you can build per turn and are forced to be right on top of the other players early on.

Some things I like, others I don't.

For those who aren't aware, the major rules twists in this map involve limitations to track building based on the round number, and a largely deterministic goods scheme where the cities are all seeded at the start of the game, but only can receive goods after that via production. The board is a large extension to the Rust Belt.

The start of the game on this is good and very excruciating. For the first few rounds the track restriction means that players have to be in each other's faces. This is, interestingly, a map where it is fairly easy to stay about at the break even point, but very difficult to actually break out into profitability, at least it seems like it took longer than average for us to do so, and this is largely a function of the ever-increasing track costs.

The mid to late game is looser though, because the number of track builds allows players a large amount of leeway to make massive inroads into the western portion of the Rust Belt map, staking out new cubes and keeping large shipments available. Even with track on the edge of exhaustion, the board still ends up with a tonne of space on it, and plenty of cubes to spare. This I did not like. I think this system would work better on a smaller, tighter board. Although I enjoy the effort to reuse the original board in a new way, a completely new design perhaps would have served the rules present better.

Overall, an A for the innovations, and a C for overall execution.

Played with six. Interesting changes to the base rules in that it forced early fighting even though it's a large map due to minimal track building, but the later turns allow for long track runs, which are likely needed/wanted for enhancing final score as well as finding some of the longer cube runs in the end.

Why would any sane person buy this thing? A print out of a map that is of the poorest quality? 10 min in any graphic editor and you could make this. Hell I think I could write a computer program to generate random maps that would play just as well. $3 at kinko's and you can get a higher quality print.

Clearly this is someone trying to exploit the popularity of AoS to make a buck from geeks who will pay for anything associated with Age of Steam. Don't be that guy.

Unopened; will part with when good offer comes along unless I will obtain my own copy of AoS before that. My interest went out to the other two of the packagedeal. But I have played AoS and liked it; so if I do pick up a copy somewhere of course I would not want to part with this . At the moment however its fate would be to collect dust and I know that a better home can be found.
