This is a must for Khet/Deflexion owners. Adds speed and cheery unpredictability to an otherwise ok, if a bit slow game. Though after more than four, five bounces, the beam seems to "disappear" often, and you have to track with your fingers... This will only get worse with the upcoming new tower expansion, I'm afraid.

Awesome expansion.
The beam splitter really messes with your head - trying to keep track of up to 3 different beams in your head can cause serious brainburn.
But it's soooo worth it.
Plus, the new set-ups are fun to play, too.

I like Deflexion/Khet, but I *love* the beamsplitter. The thing is totally insane: with beams flying all over the place it is *so* easy to immolate yourself, it's like juggling chainsaws. And setting up double and even triple-kills is both gratifying and spectacular.

Seriously, though, Deflexion/Khet is an aggressive game of setting up multiple, inescapable threats; any single-pronged threat is easy to dodge. The beam-splitters both make it easier to setup multiple threats and make the game much more dynamic. They take the game from something I probably want to like more than I actually do, to something I do actually like. I wouldn't play without them.

This adds a completely different layer to an already interesting game. As it is, I don't play nearly enough. However, at this point, I would much prefer to play the game with the beam-splitters than without. I think they really open the game up to greater strategic and tactical options. They certainly make it a lot more of a challenge.

I'm also particularly glad that they were willing and able to put out a gold/silver version of this expansion for the early adopters. [01/08/2011]

Though you don't really need it you know you want it. It opens up new strategies for this already excellent abstract game. It can however speed up your games some with its destructive power. I got the ones for the original Deflexion set.

The beam splitters are a very interesting addition to the basic game. The additional strategy they bring to the game is great. They allow more threats to be set up from more places.

The revisions to the three basic layouts make for a more offensive game (as the removal of one Djed per side is a large blow to the 'total defense' ploy.)

The two new layouts provided are also more offensive than their basic counterparts.

See my review for my full thoughts.

Sheer madness! But also so much fun trying to calculate the laser's path(s) while not hitting yourself. I wouldn't include this every time, but once in a while it's really cool!

2007-06-16: The Eye of Horus adds a lot of vitality to Khet. Since you sometimes find yourself tracking three "branches" of laser beam with it in play, it provides plenty of extra sneakiness to the game. It also grants the possibly of hitting three units in one turn - be they friend or foe, of course. If you have this and the base game, you won't play without it unless one of the players isn't up to the challenge yet (e.g. newbie). It just makes Khet a better game!

Ah, neat but not essential. As advertised, it splits beams, thus allowing more sophisticated attacks. But I've never had a problem with games getting bogged down any, so this is just another cool toy. And I like cool toys. Again, the producers have done a nice job providing alternate board setups.

Original colors version. Interesting to say the least, they certainly make figuring out what is going to happen a whole lot harder. I'd say the game is twice as hard with these. Not that that is a bad thing, but it takes a little away from the original, so I'm rating it lower.

I'm still a little ambivalent about the beam splitter. The piece itself is undoubtedly a good addition, in a brain burning kind of way; the variant starting positions that come with it are more questionable. The first we played was not very well thought out - a few no-brainer captures at the beginning, and allowed a player to turn armodillo really easily.

An extra piece for Khet, replacing a Djed, which reflects 50% of the beam and allows the other 50% through! Certainly spices up the game as you can potentially have 3 beams flipping around the board, and it's possible to set up amazing moves (equally possible for them to backfire too). Recommended to keep Khet fresh until that mezzanine board turns up!

Nabbed this to go with my original copy of Deflexion. It's not the only laser chess type game out there, but I applaud the inventors' push to get it published and their persistence in keeping it on the market with a re-naming after a legal challenge.
