Very nice game. Huge board - for a two player game. The cards really add depth and atmosphere to the game, you can play cards as events (mirroring events that happened or events that could have happened) or you can play cards for campaign points which can be used in several ways, but if you do this you allow the other player to trigger the event if it's advantageous for him.
It is a must for 2p who want more than light 2p games.

This has to be one of my favourite two player games. Rich in political theme, full of tough decisions and gorgeous to look at.
Strategies get derailed by events, dear boy, and one of the best aspects of the game is how you can force your opponent to play to your agenda.
A nail biter every time that just seems to get better with continued play.

I can't play this enough. I've got enough plays under my belt to be sure to get this one done in about 90-100 minutes. Last time I taught a new player we still managed to knock it out in just over 2hrs.

Strategies are evident, but sound tactical play is a must - a golden combination for me. Plus the rich theme and frankly stunning artwork / design seal the deal.

Any time, please.

Great two player game that really captures and maintains a close tension between the two players for the entire game. I love how this game provides avenues for multiple viable strategies. Every game feels completely different with a great challenge for balancing all the game mechanics. In addition to being a great game, the artwork and historical tidbits really show how much effort these designers put to make this more than just a posted on theme.

This is an amazing game--maybe the best 2-player game out there. This game is easy to explain to new players, plays quickly, and is incredibly well balanced. It uses a card driven system like Twilight Struggle or Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage, but 1960's momentum markers set this game over the others. This is a fun game and it captures its theme perfectly.

High degree of strategy, easy to teach and fast-paced, this CDG is a true peer of TS (with major scoring/win condition changes) and that has its pros while the more luckless elements mitigate the cons - instead of nail-biting die-rolls, you control the political capital bag. Outstanding historical board and bits - even causal gamers will want to watch you play it as they're most likely voters and certainly familiar with 'the game' of a campaign as well as the map board. Wonderful concentration of gaming in the 1-2 hrs it takes especially if the gamers are too limited time-wise for anything longer or are semi-casual gamers / in the mood for something lighter. The entire play is quite thematic and it seems that all the minor-choices scream for attention constantly. Strategy also morphs each game I play and I pretty much only play with one other experienced player unfortunately.
I never find myself setting its status as 'Want to Play' but it seems to find table-time rather... obsessively.

Protections cartes : MG standard Premium

Fantasztikus!
Számomra vitathatatlanul a Nr.1!!! (2014-ben ez már csak a múlt... időközben a Netrunner "beelőzött")

"In 1960: The Making of the President, you take on the role of one of these great protagonists vying for the right to lead his country into the heart of the Cold War. However, it is not just foreign policy that poses a challenge to American leadership; this is also an era of great social turmoil and progress. As the United States continues to build upon the promise of its founding, candidates must contend with the question of civil rights and balance their positions on social justice against the need for valuable Southern electoral votes. Of course, the ever-present issue of the economy also rears its ugly head, and both Nixon and Kennedy will compete to be the candidate with the voters' pocket books in mind.

"Sometimes the history of a nation can be defined by the relationship between two individuals. The Election of 1960 is the story of two men, John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon. One is the scion of a wealthy, politically powerful family from New England. The other is the son of a Quaker grocer in Whittier, California. While they belong to opposing political parties, they start out as friends. The complex development of that friendship, however, would shape a pivotal presidential election and cast a long shadow over American history for the remainder of the 20th century.

"The contest is fought out on an electoral map of the United States as it stood in 1960—a map where Louisiana and Florida share the same number of electoral votes, as do California and Pennsylvania. Using a card-driven game system, all the major events which shaped the campaign are represented: Nixon’s lazy shave, President Eisenhower’s late endorsement, and the 'Catholic question' are all included as specific event cards. The famous televised debates and final election day push are each handled with their own subsystems. Candidates vie to capture each state’s electoral votes using campaign points in the four different regions of the country. At the same time, they must build momentum by dominating the issues of the day and attempt to gain control of the airwaves.

"As with any election campaign, the challenge is to adapt your game plan as the ground shifts out from under you. There are never enough resources or time to do everything, but you need to make the tough calls to propel yourself into the White House. This fast-playing strategy game for two players challenges you to run for the most powerful elective office in the world, at one of its most unique crossroads. Will you recreate history, or rewrite it? 1960: The Making of the President provides you the opportunity to do both."

What an unbelievably superb game. The Twilight Struggle engine is re-imagined in an election game rife with, well, politics. The board and components are much easier on the eyes than Twilight Struggle, and things are a little bit shorter and more streamlined. All in all, perfection in game design.

A masterpiece! I don't know where to start, really.
I can easily say that this game provided more tension than any other game I've played, from start to finish.

My favorite part about the game, and the driving force throughout, is the cards. They are fantastic. First of all, the names of many of them are hilarious (political jokes at the expense of either Kennedy or Nixon). They also include just a blurb of flavor text, which in this case is historical information (which is primarily anecdotal and interesting). Beyond that, the cards are mostly split into 2 parts. You can either initiate an event OR take action points. This decision alone can drive any player mad, at times. Plus, you have to consider whether you are going to prevent someone from blocking your event or if you want to copy someone else's. Perhaps most importantly, you have to play the cards in the right order to achieve the optimal effect. To be fair, this could potentially be an AP-inducing nightmare for some player. Even for me, someone who doesn't generally succumb to AP, I tend to have to take my time. But, it's so enjoyable, and this is where the game gets a lot of its tension! It's almost more fun to decide the order to play your cards than it is to actually play them, oddly enough. So, the cards are awesome.

Beyond that, there's a great deal of chrome in the game: endorsements, advertising, major issues, momentum, etc. Consequently, there's a lot to think about, but it's not overwhelming, at least not for us. This isn't a gateway game! If you play this as a gateway, you might hate it, or think it feels like work. But that's just an assumption, I can't be sure.

Nevertheless, one of the greatest strengths of this game is the theme. I love how everything blends thematically: the tension, the back and forth, the debates, the campaign factors, and eventually, election day. The theme is well-implemented (granted I'm a history teacher).

The components are also quite nice. The art is period-appropoiate and clean. I like the "rest cubes/coffee mug" mechanic. What's interesting, and also thematically appropriate to elections, is I was crushing my wife the whole game as Kennedy. But because of her disproportionate amount of support check cubes in the bag on election day, you was able to pull off an inconceivable victory. I couldn't believe I lost, and I was quite frustrated, but in a weird way (because it made so much sense thematically) I just couldn't help but like the game more because of it. I just love this game! I'm going to stop now!

A remarkably good two-player game. Loaded with tension and a lot of give-and-take, this game makes the players feel involved for the duration. Two of my three plays have come very close, meaning that a size-10 state either way made the difference, and to me that kind of close result after a 120-minute struggle means the game has very good balance.
