A remarkably good two-player game. Loaded with tension and a lot of give-and-take, this game makes the players feel involved for the duration. Two of my three plays have come very close, meaning that a size-10 state either way made the difference, and to me that kind of close result after a 120-minute struggle means the game has very good balance.

An exciting and tense game. The card play can make for many memorable moments when your opponent plays that one card that makes your plans come-a-cropper, and like all great politicians you must move on and adapt to the new situation. A good buy for fans of politics and history.

My new favourite CDG? I'm not sure yet, but further playings will help me find out.

UPDATE: Nixon and Kennedy have each taken one-half of the victories, so balance seems good. The most-recent game went to Kennedy with a last-minute switch of CA and PA, which to me is both a strength and a weakness; a player is never truly out of contention, but on the other hand, no lead is truly safe.

For now, I've upped my rating to 9.5, as this game is hitting the right chords with me at the moment.

Fantastic. Nicely combines broad range of strategic choices with relatively simple mechanics. Great tension throughout. Best rules set I think I ever encountered - understood and able to play after one reading!

Great game after three plays. Things can change big on the last turn so it goes down to the wire. Without doing lots of adding and checking. Your are not sure who will win until you count those markers and find out.

This game, with Twilight Struggle, is one of my favorite. The game component are superb, specilly the card design, although I find the TS cards more effective to deliver essential informations. The rules are clear and the rule book is also superb. The game is an on going and very tensed management of cards and event. After 5 plays (3 recorded and 2 non recorded) I find that the Nixon player has a certain advantage. Knowing this, it make the play of the Kennedy side an additionnal chalenge.

Play with all three variants:
1. CPs spent on the Issues cannot be spent on the Issue icon on the bottom of the card.
2. Whichever player has Advertising support in the most REGIONS, may switch the position of two adjacent Issues on the Issue track, BEFORE the Issues bonuses are resolved. If there is a tie in regional Advertising support, there is no pre-bonus switching. The player with the most total Advertising SUPPORT may still rearrange the positions of the Issue track AFTER the Issue bonuses are resolved.
3. The threshold for Carrying a state is reduced from 4 cubes to 3 cubes.

Ezek messzemenőkig a legszebbek amivel valaha játszottam, sőt a minősége is remek.

I love the way some many things are handled in the game (advertising, the issues, etc.). Really cool that someone could think of a game as terrific as this one. So far I've played 10 or 11 times with a few different folks. Definitely one of my favorites!

Update (Feb. '09): Still love the game but rarely play it. Needs to be the right person (usually Pearson or Jeff). Win or lose, I always enjoy it.

Update Nov. '12: Playing with 10 year-old Wyndham tonight at EuroQuest. First time in a LONG time. Great game. Wish issue track wasn't so overpowered.

Upped the rating and the weight. My first thought was 'What? A game that re-enacts an election(albeit one that must have been particularly interesting to spectate)? Whatever.' But this is a very clever game that is very well balanced. I say that because my friend beats me equally well playing Nixon or Kennedy. There is a certain element of luck, but over the game it evens out most of the time.

Play was really slow the first few times but picked up after we got the hang of it. Some hands are really tough to figure out.

Love this game! Not always in the mood to play this though, as I really have to be paying attention. But when it comes out, it's great! Plenty to focus on and plenty of strategies that'll win the election... (Actually have more than one play online; but, since it isn't with the actual board game, I'm giving it only one play.)

I played at Gulf Games and have to say I was quite impressed. I am a big fan of Twilight Struggle (although it is hard to get to the table since it is a 2 player game) so I was very eager to Jason's new game. It adds enough new wrinkles so I do not feel I am playing the same game with a different setting. I will be sure to buy this when it comes out.

BTW, the board looks great (much better than TS)

The weakest part of this game is probably the theme, which I think is just fantastic, but will probably seem dry and uninteresting to many gamers. So I give the game an additional point just for historic nostalgia. The game itself is simply fabulous. A stylistic descendant of Twilight Struggle, one might say this game is a streamlined version of TS. In any case, game play is interesting and tense; the rules are clear and concise; and the game plays in about two hours or less. The design really does hit on all cylinders. Highly recommended.

Nixon vs. Kennedy 1960 election reenacted in a card-driven area-control game. Highly immersive and oozing with an historically well-researched theme. Sides are much more balanced than its sibling game, Twilight Struggle. Plays in about 1-2 hours. I really enjoy this when in the mood for a longer 2 player game with good depth. Plus I'm generally fascinated with the American electoral process - and I absolute love the way the story unfolds during the game and the tension that comes along with it!

I seem to spend most of this game without a clue of how I am doing votes wise, but maybe I should just accept that there isn't a VP track around the edge of the board to keep me perfectly informed, and play the game on gut feeling. You could constantly count up exactly how you were doing in votes, but it would make for a mighty long game - instinctively, I go for the big number states and try to win (or at least stay in contention) in these, and if I can pick up the odd 5 or 10 vote state along the way, so much the better. This approach for me recreates the fog-of-war which the respective campaigns must have felt historically, and is probably the spirit in which the designers would want the game to be played.

There are different ways to win the game (never a bad thing), but if your opponent is concentrating on Issues, for example, you had better put some effort into issues as well, or you will find yourself behind in Endorsements very quickly.

All-in-all, a solid 9 at the minute, with lots more games planned.
