Well done adaptation of card driven wargame mechanics to a non-wargame. Great flavor from the events--"Vice President Nixon for 'Lazy Shave'!!!!" Tense game play! Surprising twists!

Easily the best US Presidential election game I have ever played--a topic that seems so obvious for a game, but until now, never worked.

4 plays. Tense, strategic, and so many interesting decision. Perfect move is almost never 100% clear. Successfully simplifies the Twilight Struggle system. I feel smarter just having read the cards. Replay value seems high.

This or War of the Ring is my favorite two-player longer strategy game. What I like best about this is the feeling of every state really being imiportant, because on that last day it can swing either way.

Played twice now. This is definitely a game where you want to do more than you can at any given time, and there are a lot of agonizing choices to be made:

Do I play this card as an event or for points?
Will my opponent try to trigger this event?
Which cards do I save for Campaign Strategy?

...and so on. I also love the "tug of war" that happens in each state and on the issues tiles. I have an unfortunate tendency to get Endorsements and Advertising confused, so I need to brush up on that and how the Debates work.

Fantastic game. I can't wait to play it again, along with its cousin Twilight Struggle.

this is an initial rating based on my first play. the game was very easy to learn, and yet sufficiently complex in that there are so many different options of things to do. i think it's going to take me several plays to even start to get a clue. WAY cool!

The components are beautiful, the theme rocks, and the game is just plain fun. I think the card draws are pretty important, but managing bad hands is half the fun. And the length is perfect. Awesome.

I think twilight struggle is a deeper game, but as someone who will never get tons of plays of either, I like 1960 a little more since it requires less knowledge of the cards, I like this theme more, and it plays a full 90 minutes shorter - which considering the massive amount of luck in these games feels more appropriate.

Brilliant game design. Played 6 times and my rating could even reach a 10. There is some luck in the cards but they effect both players. Can't find anything wrong with it - will have to play a few more times to see if it goes to the coveted "10" rating.

Worth all the hype. The components are high quality and support the theme beautifully. Plays faster and is more streamlined than Twilight Struggle. The structure of turns with the debates as a separate turn and your discards affecting the debates everything you do has an effect on the game.

You'ld swear you're playing Twilight Struggle except for a few subtleties which add up to a big difference. An all-around winner for me; it's CDG with multiple strategies which must all be balanced between the immediate and the final turn on Election Day. Excellent in all the ways I like a game to be. And as a bonus, you can probably play two games in the time you would with TS.

Excellent game on one of the most interesting US presidential elections. Strange title aside, this game has almost everything. Lots of fun, interesting gameplay options, and fairly strong history. Players take turns playing cards, which can be used to send their candidates campaigning, purchase advertising, position on issues, or trigger historical events. The events bring out an enormous amount of historical flavor and are well integrated into the gameplay for the most part, although a couple of the events that historically were crippling to Nixon don't seem all that powerful here (his knee injury and his pledge to visit all fifty states). There is some debate as to the efficacy of advertising and the power of issue positioning. I find the former to be fine but the latter to be a bit overpowered. A small variant of prohibiting using cards to place positioning cubes on the issue denoted on the card has solved this problem for me.

The only major knock against the game is that it only covers one election. I'd like to see a 1968 expansion, since it could reuse the same gameboard. That election is interesting in that it could work quite well as either a two or three player game.

Continues to grow on me, and with gametable_online you can play it in under an hour. It doesn't have the same knife edge tension or memorable event cards as some CDGs, but it is very well balanced and it does feel like an election experience. This will get more plays than most other CDGs, I feel, purely because it is super quick but satisfying. I'll never say no to a game!

I just got this game and after playing once I can say I love it. The historical content adds a very interesting element. Who would've thought your knowledge of a presidential election could be so enhanced by a game that was fun and challenging?

I love the gameplay and the balance between luck and strategy. It definitely helps to draw well but it doesn't help enough to overcome bad strategy. The rules are fairly complex but well laid out (they may take an hour or so to go over but once you get into the game it just takes a quick glance back every now and then for confirmation). All in all a great game that everyone should try.

After two plays of this game, I am in love with it. I only wish I could read my wife a little better. I know she doesn't particularly like the length of the game. Part of it her fault - she has a little AP syndrome. Her first move of the game took 10 minutes - I timed it! I hope as she becomes more familiar it will streamline. If we could play in 60-90 minutes I am sure it would hit the table more often.

Other than that, there is nothing I don't like about this game. It is so realistic. I haven't played another game where the mechanics and the theme meld so well together. It is so much like real life it is scary. There are about a million things you want to do but are limited by your time and money and have to do what is best at the time. However, there are events taking place all around you that are out of your control. As Kennedy, you want to campaign in the West but Congress calls an emergency session and you must do your job - fly back to Maryland and suffer a penalty to movement. Or as Nixon you bang your knee on your car door and are in the hospital unable to campaign at all.

There have been some people who don't particularly like the debate section. I think it is an interesting part of the game. Winning the last issue allows you to put four state support anywhere on the board. Two turns from election day, this could put a serious hamper on your opponent's final campaign strategy. Trying to figure out how to play your cards without getting burned by opponent's events and placing the right cards into the debates (right issue, right candidate, right CP value) makes for an interesting challenge. I know my wife has been frustrated by her lack of ability to play the debates well and me being able to put a lot of state support onto the board.

Tricky Dick wins with 274 electoral votes! I love rewriting history. My wife did not want me to buy this game, but I did anyway. Now it is one of her favorites. The game system, banter, tension, cards text & card photos create a unique & enjoyable experience. Get this game (whether you are a history buff or not)! I have not been this excited about a game in a long time. I hope future games with this system are published. Game 1: Dick 274/263. Game 2: Dick 293/244. Game 3: JFK 267/262. Game 4: Dick 288/251. Game 5: Dick 332/197.
