Is this the year of Phalanx Games? Chicago Poker is the third outstanding release from Phalanx in this year. I have played 2, 3, and 5-player games so far - all were exciting and different. Complexity is low, Czarne´s very good artwork adds a lot to the game, too. (I still rate Before the Wind and Age of Discovery somewhat higher than Chicago Poker but I´m very satisfied with this game.)

Played 5+ Play with the family. It gets my other half to turn off the TV and join me and our son for an hour of pleasant banter around the dinning room table. How brilliant is that. Priceless. *UPDATE* Several plays later and this game is failing to interest like it used to, I'll drop my rating. Sept 08 *UPDATE* As a family 3 player game with 18 year old som and wife this was enjoyed while on holiday. Rating back up again. Oct 10

Vaguely like Battle Line (with poker hands) to win businesses. Three actions each turn (any mix of draw card & play card).

Only played 2 or 3 player games (without special cards), and with this number, and played quickly, its a good little game. Not sure I'd like to try it with 6 thinkers though.

Feels like multi player Battleline which I love as a two player game. This is easy to teach non-gamers and worked well following our Thanksgiving meal. I'll be taking this to more family events in the future.

4 kulonbozo szinu szorakozohely lapka talalhato a jatekban.
Emelkedett is a ponterteke.
Update2: 6-an nagyon be tud lassulni a jatek.

Interesting 'Take That' game where each player tries to compete to control various Mob Businesses. Essentially this is a hand management game where each player is trying to play multiple Poker Hands at the same time and in doing so outrank the other players at each location.

Far too much going on here to judge after 1 play. Looking forward to exploring this one some more.

nice game of competing for control similar to other games (Loot for instance) but the winning card combinations are poker hands. Another good game to introduce non-gamers who know games like poker to the variations of game mechanics that are out there.

The theme is that of gangsters in the Roaring Twenties, and it works fairly well with the game; but it's mostly just a light game of placing cards down, trying to outbluff and outwit your opponents. While it has similarities to Battleline, it's not as refined; yet I had a lot of fun with the game and think it will see a good amount of play. Games are quick, the chaos that Faidutti brings to games is certainly evident, and the whole affair is one of light, amusing play. See my review for more details.

Feels a bit like multiplayer Battle Line. It isn't as good as BL is, but still offers some interesting elements like bluffing which fits greatly to the poker-theme. I think this is underrated game. And if you want more control, play this without special cards.

Fun Poker variant with specialized cards. Be care though; they've listed the hands in the same order as a regular deck, but because of the extra cards and extra suit, a flush is actually tougher to get than a full house, so be sure to switch these two when playing. That is, a flush beats a full house.

I like that this plays well even with two, all the way up to six. And the fact that it's a poker variant with very simple rules means this is easy and quick to teach.

Update: after having played with 3 players, I think 2 might be better than three. You have to be careful not to let someone get an easy card while you are bus battling the other player at another site. Perhaps four players would not be so likely to have this occur?

I really enjoyed my playing of this. At first, I thought it would feel a bit bland compared to Faidutti's and Cathala's other games (which are usually packed with power cards and special actions) but once the bluffing and hand management took over, this game really shined.

Fun cardgame in which you try to win buildings (tricks in fact) by building up a combination of cards. However, if you know Havoc, this game is less interesting. Havoc is much more strategic, less coincidental.

Played this for the first time last night. I've never played Poker. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad one. The game played smoothly, but the cards that allow you to take a single card away from a set another player has laid make the game go on too long. It is the only card that I would re-design if I were to re-think this game from scratch.

Very simple and light game which only requires a knowledge of the order of poker hands to play. Gameplay resembles multi-player Lost Cities with chains of cards growing around the location tiles. It's easy to learn. The special cards add interaction without creating chaos. The components are pretty nice- although the fonts selected can prove hard to read. There is thinking time needed on your turn, so AP can creep in and slow things down. For this reason, I'd advise the shorter variant from the rules. Just right at this length, for a neat filler game.

Not a bad poker based game. It does take a while to finish a game though. There is some semi bluff in the game but it can be hard to find the cards you need when there are five suits and 1 to 15 in each.

Rating based on single play only.

Felt like multiplayer Schotten Totten - more of a Knizia-style game than the two Brunos. Players build poker hands against a series of tiles. The best hand wins the tile, victory is determined by tile ownership.

With 5 players, it played slowly as everyone pondered their turn, and reviewed what was already in play. This process wasn't helped by the card artwork. It's certainly colourful, but the numbers on a lot of the cards were in a very similar colour and shade to the card background, meaning the numbers were very hard to read on cards on the table if they weren't directly in front of you. (All players commented on this).

Some liked it, others didn't. In truth I'd prefer to play Schotten Totten, but of course that is two player only.

Multiplayer Battleline with more competition. I enjoy this game (even just for two players) more than Battleline as there seems to be a bit more depth; the decisions are not as obvious. As with Battleline we do not play with the "wild cards" which adds too much randomness to the game. *** After several mre plays there is little doubt that Chicago Poker has greater depth than Battleline while retaining some of the feel of a poker game.

A nice variant of poker where players keep up to seven cards in their hand and play several different hands at the same time down on the table in different spots vying for different things. The are 3 different end game conditions which was nice and they threw in some special power cards which was also nice added spice.

Light on strategy and easy to teach so very family friendly, it plays like a filler and is just about the right length for that class. Hard to beat real poker when money is the prize but this isn't too bad for an occasional filler.

Certainly has a likeness to Battle Line, but has a flare that is all its own. You try and build the best poker hand in one of three locations, so your choices are more constrained than Battle Line and winning the "battle" or location is a bit more random as the locations are randomly dealt. Still a good time, if a bit chaotic.

Great crowd pleaser. This is an easy to learn game, even for Poker neophytes. For seasoned poker players it will seem like a fancy bidding free poker variant. The gorgeous style of the game will tickle any fancier of black and white 1920s mob movies. The game is accessible to a wide audience because of the poker rules, but still immersive enough for those who want to talk like a gangster.

Nitpickers will notice that it is a modern $100 bill and not the bearer note gold or silver red stamp variety that would be available in the 1920s
