The game focus is on operational maneuver and stresses the importance of commandment..
Blind units, vedettes, crossing rivers and destroying bridges are some of the key elements of the game. Relatively simple game for grognards, it has an interesting game situation and is very enjoyable to play...
A good and solid Zucker game but the combat system is quite outdated...

Interesting set of scenarios. Better than "Last Days". Loses 0.5 in rating for the counter misprints.

Part of Kevin Zucker's superb DAYS-series depicting the French fast moving intruding forces approaching the Prussian homeland. While the Prussians haven't a clue, where the French are all about, the Prussian right wing was suddenly hit by French forces under Napoleon, while the main Prussian body was moving back northeastward just into General Davout's III. Corps awaiting them at Hassenhausen/ Auerstaedt.

Napoleonic Warfare on operational level (regimental/brigade-size).

A must for all the Napoleon-Grognards

The rating is for the game series' system only; haven't played this one yet...

...and to check for a superb video about the campaign:

Very Good: Operational - Napoleonic - Medium

Plus:
-One of the best maps I have seen
-Great strategic situation: Napoleons greatest campaign both trying to outflank and counter move
-Various scenario's of which hypothetical ones
-Low counter densitiy

Cons:
-The counter flipping can be annoying. A block system would have been excellent but than the maps would have been gigantic
-Balance: difficult for the Prussians buttheyactually stand aggo chance and are interesting to play
-Rules are fairly simple but adding examples of play would really help.

Nice components, beautiful map, well themed, approachable rules. Looks to have great potential. Rating might go up or down once I played more.

Revisited: very beautiful and appealing game and a great situation where even a skilled Prussian player stands a good chance.

An underrated and underappreciated Zucker creation.

Well, I'm afraid it'll have to wait. Whatever it was, I'm sure it was better than my plan to get out of this by pretending to be mad. I mean, who would have noticed another madman round here?

Zucker's achievement here is impressive: he has created an interesting game on Napoleon's most lopsided victory while remaining true to the strengths and weaknesses of each side. Zucker mostly seems to have achieved this through victory conditions that represent what each side was trying to do: Prussians were falling back and sought to preserve their army while the French assailed their line of communications and sought a decisive battle, which was the historical result. I highly recommend this for those interested in the Napoleonic Wars.

Who knew a game about Napoleon's 1806 campaign against Prussia could be so interesting? Use the leader casualty rules for added fun/realism. Ziplock.

Another fine offering belonging to the Days series by Kevin Zucker. Operational wargame with fog of war. Despite I prefer 1809, this is a very good game. I've only played some scenarios, which are playable but too short and lack the scope and juice of the campaign game (which takes two maps and more space than usual, so I've not tasted it yet).

Too bad some counters have errata, not a big deal though. Map is gorgeous and counters are nice, despite absence of leader portraits. Scenarios set-up tables are sometimes a bit messy but not hard to work them out. Interesting design notes about the campaign, quoting Chandler, Petre, Maude and co.

I've been doing some more reading and feel better about the CRT. This game is attempting..I think to capture to operational strategy, maneuver Corps based warfare that was evolving at the time. Still find the hidden aspect annoying as a solo game

May-ish 2013
DR..DR...DR.Not sure I understand how at this scale these combat system represents accurate battle in the era.
Really needs hidden movement system.
which ruins solo play. Vedettes are key to the game but again a solo unfriendly mechanic. Hidden movement is very cumbersome.
Might be a better game F2F, but not a fan so far.
..ahh clarity. I get it now. A fine little system!

Perhaps one of the "very special" maps by Joe Youst. It is not the usual functional style that Joe has always hunted for. Instead, this game map looks more like one done by Rick Barber (of Clash of Arms fame). Kevin's OCS Napoleonic has been so profilic and highly appraised by wargamers worldwide. And I am very pleased to confirm that.

A scaled-up derivation of the Napoleon at Waterloo system. About 1770 meters per hex and 4 hours per daytime turn instead of 400 meters per hex and 1 hour per turn. The full campaign takes up two maps, but the game is pretty fast playing.

Because of the longer turns, in uses a much bloodier combat results table with more exchange results, and it uses unit reorganization rules like Napoleon's Last Battles. Because of the semi-operational scope of the game, it uses initiative rules and limited intelligence rules, with inverted counters and vedettes, not unlike the Napoleon at Bay system.

So far my favourite of the Days series, but played with the updated (1809) version of the rules. The playable area is bigger (gorgeous maps) and the whole situation is a challenge for the Prussian side. Campaign is quite interesting but maybe a bit long to play. However, once the Prussian take a holding stance at the Saale bridges, game turns are much quickly played. Errata on a few counters are the only low point I would note.

The granularity (division level and all-or-nothing combat results) is very annoying at this scale. The victory conditions are ambiguous: can out-of-supply units control the off map depots for victory purposes ? It makes a lot of difference, but probably not enough for the French to have a chance of winning anyway.
