I love it. It resembles a pawn ending in chess in some way. Easy to handicap if one of the player is winning too much.

This is an elegant game, made very playable by the wooden pieces (the dogs are so cute). Alas, after ten or fifteen games you'll probably get the hang of it, and determine the winning strategy, but until you do, there is sure to be plenty of excitement. And if you want to get extra mileage out of it, I am sure you could do so by tweaking the starting position, or allowing the "losing" side an extra move or two. The game is fairly well balanced, so a small tweak should maintain the balance.

I like this quick, light abstract (Piatnik version). Definitely not deep, but still fun for me (probably the bits, board, and theme(?)). When we pull it out, we play it several times in succession. We switch sides after a few games, handicapping as needed (adjust # of dogs/buffalo, or start chief and his dogs closer/further from buffalo) to keep the games close.

Not great, but for a fast game, fills the bill (Buffalo Bill? heh, heh). There's a nice way of handicapping one player if he's winning too much. The bits are great. Gameplay is okay but not real involving.

This game plays really quick; several rounds in a row may only take a dozen minutes if you don't pause long between moves. It's useful for shifting gears between longer games and since it's asymetric just switching sides will refresh each player's take on the game.

Asymmetrical play reminds me a bit of "mole hill". Both games might get a little bit boring after many plays, I wonder if home made tiles could modify the landscape and movement options.

The board is a grid 11 rows x 7 columns, with the 2 end rows separated by rivers. One player controls the Buffalo (11; 1 in each space on one side), the other the Indian Chief (center square in front of opposite river) and 4 dogs (2 to either side of Chief). Buffalo can only move 1 space forward. Indian Chief moves like a King, and can capture. Dogs move like queens but cannot capture, only block movement. Neither Chief nor Dogs may cross the rivers. Buffalo plays first. Take turns moving 1 piece at a time until someone wins.

Handicapping: If Buffalo is winning too much, take Buffalo(s) away. If Chief wins too much, let Buffalo move >1 buffalo on the first turn.

It's a quick little abstract game, like simplified Chess (end-game Chess). I don't like Chess, but this is fast enough that I don't mind it. The simple handicapping system should make repeated play possible. But since the wife doesn't care for it, it's off to the trade pile....

This is a decent little abstract game. Certainly nothing is wrong with it. The theme works nicely and it almost makes you think you are playing something other than an abstract, well, ok, not really.

If it is on the table, I would play it and get in a couple quick games, but, when it comes down to it, it just isn't that exciting or compelling. Were it not for the bits it would probably get a 4.

OK abstract game but I kept winning very easily. *** That was 2003. Played again yesterday and I kept losing. If you like abstracts, give it a whirl but don't go out of your way. Feels more like you win by the other player getting it wrong.

This one's quite suited for playing with kids. One play will take no longer than 10-15 minutes. Repeated playing is demanded by kids. Teaches your small ones to think ahead. For adults this is almost like the end-game in chess.

Prärie is a pleasantly agile, light abstract game with a theme pasted on (Alex Randolph indeed) where a player has got to bring one buffalo out of eleven to the other side of the board while the other player has four dogs to stand on their way and one indian to capture them.

After a mere couple of rounds at most a modus operandi becomes clear: since the buffaloes can only move forward one at a time it's recommendable that they split the opponent's forces so that at some point the indian can't reach the place where the dogs are not enough; the dogs need to be as mobile as possible and the indian of course shouldn't stray too far from the middle. From there on every round changes slightly for one player or the other (despite serious hunches of bias or winning strategies the outcome of all my plays has been fairly even).

Interesting, first asymetrical abstract for me. Took a game or two to win as the 'indian', now I'm not sure which side has the advantage. (Which keeps me interested of course.)

UPDATE: Now that I've played several more games, I'm sure the 'indian' player has the advantage. I'm pretty sure the only way the 'buffalo' player can win is if his opponent screws up.

I have the 'Trespass' version, and be warned that the 'plug' playing pieces like to slide out of the board randomly during game play.

Totally borring game with no interest. Annoying I would say... The point of the game is to give some vision to young kids to put these concept in play while playing Chess.
