This game is better now that my son is getting older and better at shooting and "sailing".

I can't believe this game has earned such a low rating. It is great! What fun. What great components. HABA is pricey, but I am so glad I bought this little gem.

The boats and cannons work perfectly with the bellows. The cannon idea is especially clever, and well made. The bellows are large and easy to use. Even the placement of the harbor and alignment of the island was well thought out. (ships must cross in front of each other in order to reach the distant harbor. This blocks shots and gives a chance to ram the other ship.)

When playing with younger children, we will probably cut the treasure hunt down to 2, or maybe even one.

Blowing the ships around with the bellows and firing the cannon at the ship are just too fun, for both my 6 year old and myself. This rating could possibly be even higher as we play it more.

fun and unique. can drag on and on though if both players are not very good at sailing but very good at cannon shooting.

Game has nice components, but the bellows are a little tough to use for smaller kids. One really has to pound it to get the ship to move at all and then there is a chance to flip the ship. Games between equal players should be a lot of fun though.

(2008-03-25) Not bad -- my son has a lot of fun with it. The "square" cannon balls, however, have got to go! They keep getting stuck in the cannon. In frustration I finally made new cannon balls from some wadded up foil and they worked perfectly well.

This is a very clever little dexterity game, but I can't see myself playing again and again. I like the amount of randomness in the die roll and treasures. It gives a chance for a come-from-behind win. Kids would love it, assuming they have the cordination for it. For elementary school kids, I could see this being their favorite game.

My rating is a 6 but my 6yo would likely rate this an 8 or 9. Simple game with a that uses bellows to move and shoot. Fun for the youngsters...not that challenging for adults but worth it to play with your young ones.

Silly game that's good to play with the kids. For adults, the novelty of the game wears too quickly.

Rated by my 7-year old son, who loved the idea of the game, just not the execution. The "cannon balls" jammed too often to be fun and the material the bellows were made of was a bit too stiff for him to get maximum "blow" effect. The ships were a bit too easy to capsize. In theory, a great game for every young boy who dreams of high seas adventure. In reality, it just didn't come off as well as it could have. Personally, I agree with him. I would have preferred a crokinole version of the same - less finicky. Hmmm...maybe I'll make one myself!

First game impressions: Puffers are just as difficult to use properly as in its big brother, Der Schwarze Pirat. Takes some practice, especially for the little ones. Cannons can be very frustrating as the "cannonballs" are cubes. I think a little sanding off of their corners is in order.

However, oldest son really enjoyed the game thanks to the theme and the chance to "blow up" the other ship with the cannon. Again, puffer and cubes were working against him, but he soldiered through. Cute game, but not a lot there outside of the cannon and puffer gimmick. If possible, pick it up second hand and save some money.

The concept of using hand-bellows to blow sailing ships and to shoot cannons is brilliant. The execution is imperfect. It's still somewhat amusing, but mostly disappointing.

E.g. The best way to propel your ship is to blow on the hull, not the sail. The best way to fire your cannon is to have the cannonball hanging out the end and barely staying inside the barrel. These things undermine the tactile feel of the mechanics, making it a mellow experience.

However, once you learn the quirks is is still amusing. Unfortunately, it is too simple for adults and too unintuitive for kids. It's not terrible, but it doesn't shine like I hoped it would.

Players face off against each other, attempting to blow their pirate ship across a table and into the opponent's cardboard bay. When not blowing the ship, players shoot cannoncubes in an attempt to hit the opposing player and end their turn. Neat, but not much of a game and not too similar to the full game.

I love the concept of this game, but it didn't play out in game play with my 5 year old. She really struggled using the rubber blowers and eventually we just had her blow the ships using her mouth. Then the cannons were impossible for her. It'll make a nice toy though.
