An excellent minimalistic dungeon crawl with theme and meaningful tactics, a feat difficult for a designer to perform.

The game is definitely more flexible than it first looks with only two types of monster miniatures and three types of heroes, not a lot of cards etc. The scenarios make it interesting and it is definitely more interesting both in theme and in execution than the similar Castle Ravenloft but I still think it is a shame this was not produced by FFG who could have beefed it up with content and just more of the same instead of this careful 'light' approach which needs more expansions to be the milestone it could be. A bit more flavouring (in the bits and tiles) as well as in the rules and on the cards would have been nice too.

The theme is great! And where a 2-player game is concerned, I like it more than Doom: The Boardgame. Looking forward to this one again.

Why I think you should play this game:

*The tactile experience-the aesthetic, the size, the development of the dungeon-is grand without being baroque. This is truly a visual feast.

*The theme is darker and funnier than your usual Ameritrash traditions: the French production does absurdity and foreboding at the same time.

*The dynamics are very tense-the humans are replete with power but losing strength every turn; the Demon begins weak but grows more and more threatening. It feels cramped and desperate.

*The combat and movement metrics are elegant. Abilites and numbers are straightforward in application but offer varied application when infused with spatial and tempo concerns.

*Scenarios play in one hour or less. People have complained one side is better than the other too often. Beyond Who Dares Wins (Scenario 6) I don't think this is true to any imbalanced extent. Each side has its strategic biases and situations it doesn't want to be in. Learn them and mitigate them.

*The online content and the expansion vault this game into the stratosphere for me. I'd play with De Profundis every time once my opponent knew what was going on; it gives the Demon just enough more to do and makes the Humans more nuanced, too.

This is an excellent choice if you love fast-playing 2-player tactical minis games. Now that's a crowded field to be sure. But there are some unique aspects that make Claustrophobia well worth looking into.

First of all, the prepainted minis are an excellent touch and this combined with the quality of the other components really make this a beautiful experience right out of the box.

Secondly, the dice system is fantastic fun. It provides just enough randomness that you can't get locked into an "I always do this" strategy, but yet provides you with myriad tactical options once the dice are rolled.

Thirdly, the asymmetric sides feel wonderfully different to play. In many ways, this game is like streamlined Space Hulk.

I'd give this a very strong recommendation if any of the above is appealing to you. There is very little here not to like.

I've been on this site for 10 years now, and I'm far from sick of games, but I think I am, to some degree, sick of learning too many new games. I'm also tired of playing 4+ hr multiplayer games, but I'll still happily play really long games 2 player.

[2 plays] The Battle Cry of dungeon crawls. Fast, fun, efficient mechanics, smooth combat system, enough decisions to be interesting and enough randomness to avoid overly investing in the outcome. This is a great two player.

Most recent plays 4/14/13.

Claustrophobia is a pretty cool 'dungeon crawl'. I love the damage system for the heroes and how quick and easy the game is to pick up and play. The components are top notch and I am shocked that with components so nice and pre-painted miniatures this comes from a small publisher.

I've only played this 3 times. It seemed good but limited in replayability. I have a feeling I'll rate this lower when I play it more.

Giving this a tentative rating of six based on a single play at BGG Con 2012. I loved the lore and the rules, but I was also horrible at it and wonder if there's enough depth for multiple plays.
