Well, I'm afraid it'll have to wait. Whatever it was, I'm sure it was better than my plan to get out of this by pretending to be mad. I mean, who would have noticed another madman round here?

4th Reich might be tasteless, it might be a violation of copyright, and it is not the greatest game. But it is honest and I respect that. Best of all, it has a sense of humor. The only real blemish in our hobby, besides maybe a general grumpiness and pickiness, is that at one time it harbored closet Nazis. Games like 4th Reich allow us to laugh at that and see it for what it was: ridiculous.

Interesting game, but you would think Hitler himself wrote the game history as the "Pure Men", located in "Geld" (Germany), are fighting off the mutant hoard.

Heh. Does Norman Spinrad know you borrowed the plot from Iron Dream and made a boardgame out of it, guys?

Tasteless, but fun...and the Guernica figure on the cover is amusing.

That whirring sound you hear is Norman Spinrad spinning in his grave. The game could have been lifted in its entirety from the pages of Spinrad's "The Iron Dream," a "pulp' sci-fi" story supposedly written by an alternate universe Adolf Hitler

Game play is okay, nothing special but an entertaining diversion from the usual fare. The theme seems to offend some, and I guess it should me, as I would be a 'Mutant'. Instead, I find it wickedly amusing.

Curious game. Plays fairly well solo due to the nature of the rules governing the mutant armies. Once the Puremen strategy is figured out, which is not to difficult, repeat plays hold little interest. Basically the game is a take on Nazi Germany's European campaigns, culminating in Operation Barbarossa (attack on the main mutant nation); however, in this game there is no Analog of Britain or the USA. The Rules are not perfect and require some House Rules to fix. Still, a fun little game if not taken to seriously - the Puremen player being the more enjoyable side to play.

A ghastly cover and theme masks what is essentially a low complexity, cartoon version of World War II.

Man, this game is tasteless, and what a horrible cover! I had to have it. Played a solo game, and there were wild swings of fortune, a dramatic failure by Hetler with a 2d6 roll of 2 that allowed a resurgence of the mutants, but in the end, the mutants were doomed to defeat. Interested to try it two-player, but who would that second player be?

Bad game with a funny theme. Evil futuristic Nazi's against the Evil Russian mutants. The attacker can never take losses, so can attack everywhere at any odds.

# of players: 2 max
Game Duration: less than 1 day
Playing Speed: fast
Complexity: simple
Scale: strategic

Opinion: Humans vs Mutants in a post-apocalyptic Europe. Bears a striking resemblance to the WW2 East Front only the mutants are outclassed at the start of the conflict and don't get any better...

Will I play it again? Unlikely and only after increasing the point cost of the human units...

Would I buy it again? No.

Will I sell/trade it? Yes.

I'm ashamed to admit that this game was once in my collection but was sold many years ago at an Origins auction. It stunk and didn't seem as if it was playtested. 4th Reich was inspired by Norman Spinrad's "End of the Iron Dream" and Ralph Bakshi's animated movie "Wizards" yet managed to insult both.

Interesting to see how this could be gamed out. But the game seems to be not appealing to the enthusiasts. Because it is completely ahistorical I think.

Honestly, how can you not want to play a game like this? Nazis and mutants and explosions, and for all I know, squadrons of mutated elephants with rocket-firing monkeys riding their ears. I'm hoping that last thing is true, but I'd play it even if it turns out not to be.

Picked this up for nostalgia value. I have not played, but like the theme: Norman Spinrad's "The Iron Dream", with Dear Adolf skipping the dictatorship route and coming to the US as a science fiction writer. Of course, as to the ideas presented in that fiction...
