[drool] it's a contraint game. Meaning you need to balance your inputs and outputs. Not to much of one and minimize waste.

One of my favourite economic games, I thought I knew how to play it but somehow people can sneak a win from under you. Lots to manage with only a limited number of actions to influence the game.

It's not recommended to play too frequently as you can burn out on it easily as it is quite intense, some people are put off by that though, not sure why (well other than having to play with me), I always play to announce probabilities of how many cars that we can expect to sell to avoid slowing the game down while everyone does it for themselves. Like most good games this is finely balanced and rogue players who don't get the subtlety can break the balance.

Much more approachable than Wallace's other designs of similar weight. Automobile seems simple at first but after four rounds of play, you'll discover that there are much more strategy involved than what meets the eyes. With the exception of the demands markers, everything else is open information so it is quite calculable, to a point, of what kind of purchases your opponents might make as well as the distributors they will be allocating. My only concern for the game are the roles themselves, I find quite a few of them to grant rather useless powers and are only selected for the purpose of turn order. I look forward to trying this again.

Automobile is surprisingly suspenseful and has a lot of different interesting choices. I've read people who think that there are not very many choices to make when playing Automobile and I completely disagree. Each decision of what to make and where to spend your actions is a dynamic process. Additionally, each decision that each other player makes greatly affects what decisions you can and should make.

I have only played Automobile with five players, and I can imagine that it would play suboptimally with less than five. This game is one of the few games that is all about player interaction that I still find enjoyable.

A good (but complex) economic game. The randomness of the demand system is a double-edged sword. On one hand it causes long turns and AP, but on the other hand, it amplifies the tension... plus there are many ways to hedge your bets.

Wow. This game was great. My first play was a 4 player game where no one had played before. I like how every decision you make matters in some shape or form. Since none of us knew how to play, we were really scared of losses, so we all played very conservatively.

At the end of the game there was a winner and a loser (person in last place, which was me) but no one could explain how we ended up in those positions. Looking back over our decisions as best as we could, we could speculate what we assume we did wrong or could have done differently (some which would clearly have helped), but we couldn't actually say if it is what determined the outcome of the game. I would definitely love to play this again.

Another Wallace game that feels like a Wallace game. Not always a bad thing, and in this case it makes something that is better than average, but not something that I'd play frequently.

I do find some of the choices interesting, especially how your actions depends on what other people have chosen more so than what comes up on the board (as the only random element is the demand tiles). It's similar to other Wallace games where you have to spend money to make money, in this case by buying factories and making cars and then selling said cars for profit, all the while making sure you don't make too many cars or have too many distributors trying to sell said cars. Feels a little too mathy and calculating, especially near the end when you have to decide what type of cars would be best to build.

First game of 4 players I ended in first place with a score of $3930 (second place had $3900). Would have probably done better but I went "balls to the walls" and took a double loan and way over produced just for fun.

Like all the Wallace games I've played, it seems the best strategy is to get as close as possible to bankrupt by using all your money to maximize production and then using that to sling shot yourself back to top. That's what I did, and most people though I was going to lose by the end of the second turn.

After second play I like the game slightly more, mainly because it is unique and I can't think of another game like it. I don't understand the board because it is almost impossible to get around it due to R&D costs, but that's a minor issue. It seems that mass producing one automobile that another person isn't capitalizing on is the way to win, especially the cheap cars.

Typical Martin Wallace design, so many choices but so little actions. You have to sort of balance your car production versus hidden demand. I only went for luxury card & std size and didn't do the econ model due to the other 3 players all trying to flood the market with the cheap model. Ended up as 2nd place.

A game about building and selling cars, more about the selling than the building. Reminds me of Planet Steam and ...

I gave this a 7. I really wanted to give it an 8, but there are some things that irked me after my first play. The executive decisions don't seem to have the same impact that the special bits in Tinners Trail have. The demand tiles feel a bit wonky and tacked on as well. I love Tinners, it's my #1 as I write this and I wanted to love this as much. There is a caveat though - I had questions after my first play of Tinners as well. The only difference is that I didn't enjoy the gameplay of Automobile as much during the first play as I enjoyed Tinners. So, I will stick to my 7 rating with the potential for increase with additional plays.

I think I must be getting harsh in my old age because my rating of 7 is on the lower side of average. This is a clever and quirky design, as many of Wallaces often are, but a little on the dry side. You can't help but admire the mechanics, all the while thinking this ought to be more fun than it actually is. A good game that will improve with understanding, I think this will upgrade in the future. Clever and complex but with that element of chance that makes a game even better.
