Owning one of the original Czech versions of the game, I found this very useful after purchasing the Big Expansion.

Nice to actually have this occur as I now have two sets of tiles. This is useful having just a base set of tiles for playing with new players and a compatibility pack for games with vets where we add in expansions!

--Dec2008-- A german copy. So I'm only vaguely compatible.
--Jul2009-- Sprung for an english copy, too. So now I've got three sets of tiles (two compatible with the expansion), three sets of cards (two compatible in language, a different two compatible in size), and a whole bunch of extra money.

I think that the rounded noses on the spaceships was a real improvement, but other than that, nothing real critical here unless you want to match with the expansion. A little frustrating having to buy a compatibility pack just so that you can play a game with the expansion.

Galaxy Trucker: The Big Expansion is more of the same, which is a very good thing for fans of Galaxy Trucker. It’s more tiles to build your ship, more aliens to man your ship, more adventure cards and rough road cards and new evil machinations cards to blow your ship apart. It’s not revolutionary, but that’s fine by me. I love the base game and have played it 20 times now, and I love playing with the expansion even more, which I’ve played 3 times so far. I don’t expect to play without the expansion ever again, except when teaching the game to new players. I particularly like that The Big Expansion increases the difficulty level of the game significantly. I’ve gone from always making 80 to 90 credits, to now making 10 to 20 credits. I’m looking forward to slowly building myself back up as I get more familiar with the new tiles and cards. I really enjoy the increased challenge of the game with The Big Expansion. I heartily recommend it to any fans of Galaxy Trucker, and I heartily recommend to avoid it if you didn’t enjoy the base game because it certainly doesn’t alter it significantly. It’s more of the same, which is fine by me!

Received as gift: November 8, 2008.

I feel kind of stupid rating this, as it's not even a game. I came up with a 6 by averaging an 8 (for CBG's willingness to help early adopters enjoy the expansion at a cost which seems like they're basically just covering their expenses) and a 4 (for not having the foresight to prevent having to do this in the first place).

Having played with this finally, I don't really consider it a necessary addition for owners of the first edition. The finish differences are not that notable unless you are really looking at them. I wouldn't sweat it unless you are some sort of completist.

Thought I had the 2nd edition, but turned out I had the first and need the conversion kit. That sucks. The expansion runs $11 from RGG but should have been provided free given it was their choice to modify the cardstock used and card sizes. Still, it was cheaper than buying a new version of the base game.

The finish on the tiles is better than that of the 1st edition, and the cosmic credits are much more managable thanks to their slanted corners. Too bad the boards were not replaced as well... All in all, considering that I got this for free with my Big Expansion, a good purchase .

Will not ever acquire a rating, though.

Update Sold off when I let my Galaxy Trucker stuff go to greener pastures.

Whoot, now I have the full expansion. Lots more chaos, lots more fun and up to 5 people can be spaced at any time. Adds just enough extras to the game that its not finished yet, still hungry for a little bit more.
