Favourite childhood game.

A similar mixture of 'The Game of Life', 'Monopoly', and economics.

Interesting game. Played it for the first time yesterday. I hate the theme of the game, but game play itself is varied enough to make it quite interesting. Everyone in our group enjoyed playing it. Only odd part is that, according to the game play, to reach upper class society you have to win big at the horse races or stock market. Myself, I know of a few people who landed good paying jobs, but this is not a possibility in this game. Maybe working for a living is a bad word in upper class society.

Enjoyable game if played with the right group and attitude. Roll & move at its core, but the differentiation in class values and attitudes is a bit amusing.

A relatively fun and novel game, it was 'middling' in our family board-game interest list, below such things as Game of Life, Careers and Chartbuster, but above Monopoly and Risk.

Fun game with the right crowd. The mechanics are very simple, but the game really boils down to luck.

Loads more fun if adult beverages are enjoyed and everyone starts betting on the ponies!!!

Unadventurous roll 'n' move social climbing game. Only gets a 5 because I spent most of my childhood playing it obsessively. I think I would rate it a lot lower now if I had to play it again!

Numerous plays in the 80 And 90's. Simple roll and move trying to reach the top social status and win by amassing £100,000. Usually played with a house rule limiting amount to bet on horse race, as one stroke of good luck with a single dice role could produce a winner and therefore render the rest of the gameplay useless

I played this many times as a child and enjoyed it well enough. This and many other roll-and-move games of it's type were good for what they delivered at the time but now with so many more interesting games I can't see playing these types of games very often at all. I still wouldn't say I hate games like this because they are simple to play and there is even a little nostalgia about playing with childhood friends when you play them. Ratrace was actually one of the better games from my childhood and I could still see it hitting the table a few times in the future...for all intents it's a game that will be valued for good memories rather than superb game play.

House of Games put out some great games, but this unfortunately wasn't one of them. The "roll the dice and move your piece" game mechanic is old before you even start the game.

We had this in the house growing up - haven't played since the 80s. Essentially a souped-up roll & move with a small amount of decisions to make along the way. Nothing special nor a game I would ever seek to play again. A product of its time.

Ideal Players: 6

Description: A classic roll-and-move game. Buy luxury items and accumulate money to move up in society.

Pro: Trickle-down economics balances the game, especially with six players. Credit lets players spend beyond their means. Game tells a story as players rise and fall.

Con: Ultimately random, with few choices. Feels longer than it should be for what it is.

Another game I'm rating based on my memories of playing it as a child. The three social levels can give a sense of achievement when moving up and therefore it can be a rewarding experience. The game is a pure luck roll and move game though.

I wouldn't say this game was annoying, just not very appealing. The 80's held lots of games like this on the shelves because life was all about making cash. Although this came out in 1967 it could have been an 80's child.
Roam arund the board until you make the cash to go to the middle or upper levels. Where there is more cash to be made but expenses are higher.

I played a lot when I was a kid growing up. I enjoyed the game as a kid, but I won't be playing again as an adult unless to spend time with niece's and nephew's etc. Or possibly some non-gamers. If so, they should have a copy of the game in question. I don't have my own copy since I switch from american board games to euro board games.

There are too many better games out there that playing this game on a regular basis is a waste of time.

SOLD IT.

Got this game again in a trade. I gave the game to my niece for her birthday.

As a family game this deserves a 5 as it is about par in that respect. However even as a child of 9 I managed to pick up on the obvious flaw on my first play.

Don't bother paying for anything! Put it all on your credit card and get yourself moving up asap

Due to this obvious flaw I would struggle to give any better than a 1 or so as a serious game. Hence a fairly poor 3
