I picked this up at a homeschool fair. Lots of fun. No bible knowledge needed, but it helps to look up the verse references on the cards. Persecution is a GOOD card in this game

Need at least 3 players, better yet, 4players. Light and simple. Good game if you want a wargame, but don't have Grognards handy.

This game is pretty rad for what it is. Yes, it's luck-driven, but there is a level of strategy: pay attention to which hazard cards have come out already, adapt to the "word spreads" cards as needed, try to get to a city every turn if possible. As a teaching tool and a general overview of some of the hardships the early church faced, it's brilliant.

My wife and I have played this game quite a bit, and we really like it with a major rule change. Check out my post on this game to get the details. I've upped it to 7 due to the rule change we implemented. I will add that I really like the extra historical tidbits that do not effect the game, but they are included in the game either on cards or on the board.

Good light race game with a strong historical theme based on the 1st century church. Rules are simple but components are very open-ended, allowing players to generate their own scenarios and winning conditions, and even play a solitaire game!

Fun and (for a religious game) well made, but I'm left wanting a bit more substance. It's relatively light, but unlike the great light games, it isn't particularly fast and we rarely want to play again. Still, it is appealing and remains a nice option for Sunday games in our home.

Gameplay is a 5 (take it or leave it) but I give it an extra point for theme.

Edit: played it again and I'm bumping the game play up to 6 and giving it an extra point for theme.

Simple game that is actually good! It is a race game but you will have a lot of fun with it especially with the right group of people that can see the lighter side of dire situations that St. Paul had to face. The game map is gorgeous!

Not bad. Essentially just a dice-rolling, card-playing race game. On the plus side, the map is nice and the events on the cards do evoke the topic. Unfortunately, I was hoping for something with more meat to it, along the lines of Source of the Nile. The amazing accomplishments of the man who transformed a small Jewish sect into the world's leading religion just don't come through.

Nice looking map, components; cards are on the thin side, waxy, and difficult to shuffle.

Game play is very light with very little decision making. The choices there are are quite obvious. Good for casual gamers who are also Christians, which is the target group I had in mind when I purchased this. Wouldn't play this with more serious gamers.
I give it a six, upgraded for the components. The theme actually does a good job of capturing what Paul went through as described in the book of Acts.

There are many worse biblically themed games, and this one is an entertainingly enough way to spend an hour, but there is way too much of a runaway leader problem to call it much of a game.

The game is fairly simple and it is very luck driven. However, the game has tension and a narrative arc. I also like that this is a Christian themed game where the theme is not just things from the bible crammed into a party game.

Interesting and a well made game, but really only for the Christian who is interested in, what else, the journeys of St. Paul and the establishment of congregations in the Early Church. No prior knowledge necessary. Not preachy in any way, just good wholesome fun. The goal is to build and maintain churches in the Mediterranean world of the first century.

Have played the basic version so far. Too easy, of course. The theme is really good, but the cards are quite repetitive. Kids enjoyed it too. Will eventually play the advanced version of the game. Nice artwork. Components are a little cheap and nasty, but I guess they didn't have a large budget.

Neat little racing game. Deacons are very important, all players seem to encounter situations where deacons will save cell groups. The game is pretty luck heavy with card draws, but there is some strategy involved in when to use the opportunity cards.

The Journeys of Paul feels like an update to the classic family board game, but with some strategic movement and trading possibilities appended to raise it above that level.

The basic game play is select action, draw a card for random event, then take action if event permits (move or recruit) possibly using an ennablement card, and restock ennablement card (hand limit of 7).

Movement is on an attractive and historically accurate board (which curls badly in this edition due to the tube storage), with a non-symmetrical hex grid overlaid for distnace control (hexes tend to be larger at sea, reflecting quicker travel w/good weather).

At the end of a round of turns free trading of cards/resources is permitted; this is a step in the right direction, but doesn't seem thematically square somehow, IMHO.

I'm notching it a 5.75 on a first solo play with 6-characters, but very little trading. i think it might be as high as a 6 or even 6.25, but don't expect it will rise above that, even with my definite interest in this theme.

[1 play] Initial reaction rating. I like the theme and found the game interesting. I played a 4 player game, using the advanced rules with the exception of only needing to establish three churches instead of the full five. It was a decent adventure just to see where everyone would try to go and who would win the "race" to rome. I was an enjoyable race and I would not mind playing it again and giving it another try. The game definately does have more luck of the card draw than I typically prefer. The trading of cards and churchs, etc is really the main strategy. Trying to get what you need in trades and planning your route is where the thinking comes in. Otherwise the event and opportunity cards are just all luck of the draw and see what happens. I don't think I would like playing it to establish the full five churches. Really establishing just three churches felt like enough and the game still took over an hour.

The components look nice, except for that silly map that keeps rolling up! Nice artwork and good flavoring from the Bible text. Good game for non-gaming Christians, I guess. But there's no game to speak of. You have only one way to win the game and whether you win or not depends on card draw and nothing else!
