WOW!! I can't believe this game is so poorly ranked. Yes it is a light game. Very much like "war" with enough variation to keep it interesting and a lot of second guessing what your opponent will do. This is the last game of the night. Because it plays real quick and it does not take too much brain power after thinking all night. But it sure is fun with 4 or more players. Buy it, play it, love it. My wife despises board games and she plays this one.
4p-6p is best.

A charming family game. Very simple, very thematic, and good fun. It lacks strategic depth and your ability to win is often not tied to skill, but Montgolfiere isn't trying to be that kind of game.

This is an excellent game to bring out for your family young and old. You will laugh, you will sigh, and your kids and parents will have a blast.

Great filler game for my family when we have our 8-year-old playing with us, AND this is a favorite game of my 3-year-old (who just blind draws cards when he plays, but has a great time "storming" and "gassing"). UPDATE: He is now 5, and "storms" and "gasses" with purpose

Solid filler. It's really a 7, but I gave it an extra point for the novel idea and the quality of the art and bits.

A very nice light game with some deduction, some chaos, some take that, and allot of fun.

"It was really fun and it was really good. We enjoyed it! The game is really unusual and it was our first time playing it. I hope it has an expansion so it gets even better! There were lots of cards and the Black Baron is fun to play against, and easy to beat." (ed. even though the Black Baron won once!) "We hope that we play it again really soon. The board is long and I like the moon." - comments from RJ, age 6

Basic fun. Good with a various player counts. That it's simple works well. Rules are a bit oddly worded.

I love the theme and artwork of this game. It's easy to learn, not a lot of rules. You have to play it a few times to get a feel for what cards should be played when. Plays quickly, a good inbetween game.

Fun game. Played it twice today (11-1-2011) with Mr. Billington, using the "Black Baron" variant as the third player. Probably alot more fun with more than 2 human players, though. Maybe next time?

Beautiful board. Quick & deceptively easy with lots of interaction. Easy to have dummy players. Can be played with non-gamers.

I enjoy the simultaneous reveal/bid mechanic for its tense uncertainty, sitcom and quick pace. I have played quite a few games using this mechanic, but so far I think this game implements it the best. Very similar to Raj/Hols de Geier, but reduces the scoring to a visual point by point race to be the first to the moon. Admittedly, the extra special ability cards can add some confusion, but it only takes a couple of quick games to time their use. Besides, they add an extra dose of sitcom, with high bids often backfiring and low ones suprisingly move up. Some will complain it is just a luckfest, but it is all about card counting and making decisions which increase the odds in your favour (i.e let others pass you, play your high sand bag to get underneath highly potential movers who you can hook on next turn).Rating is for upto 4 players as more makes it difficult to see what cards are still to play and so more random; also resolving card play is more cumbersome. Rules also include some interesting variants to suit group size and tastes.

An enjoyable, fun, very light little game, good as a starter, or to finish off a night (or day...) of more serious gaming. No strategy, just hilarious fun! At one play the Red Baron even won! (that's the non-player, who is played entirely by chance).
