Railways Through Time is my newest expansion for the RotW series. The theme is a playful new twist for the series that also allows players to customize their playing experience. Veteran RotW players will appreciate the limitless scoring opportunities the modular design allows for. Enjoy!

We really love the tycoon series and play a lot of 2 player. This expansion rocks the interaction to a higher level. Nothing is safe. Openes up new stategies like like controlling access to certain colors and sneaking behind other players cities and robbing um blind This is a huge surprise - it will get more attention as a sleeper hit.

Excellent use of time traveling. We use the rule that you can use opponents' lines. When you enter and exit from time traveling the 2 lines must be the same color (owner). these 2 rules somehow were never clarified in the rulebook.

4.1.12 I like how this map scales to the number of players. I also enjoy how it tries to promote engine upgrades. Bouncing goods to various time zone is a lot of fun and trying to get the most of your engine is a nice addition. I do wish you had the 'leader' cards with hidden agendas.

A terrific expansion to an already great game, and it adds a much-welcomed balance to the maps (you choose as many as you need for the number of players involved). The time-travel theme is perhaps a bit silly, but still awesome as playing around with the space/time continuum is inherently fun. Everything is laid-out so nice here, that it's admittedly hard to go back to the "normal" maps.

RotW expansion with a twist: time travel. Players can deliver goods between different eras on eight different boards, using a selection of maps depending on the number of players. Retains enough of the original to be enjoyable, and adds enough new elements to be a fun and different experience.

One 2-player play rating. Subject to change.

The connections are easy and I definitely feel this could use tycoon cards to add a bit more uncertainty, but it's still dynamic. The low amounts of cubes, routing networks to allow long loops, and possibilities for stealing keep it tense. The little additive major lines are really not a factor. I think maybe the points should be upped to make them more enticing...

Really enjoyed it. Want to play with 4 or 5 players, but it will blow your mind. The non-linear networks make it hard to keep your mind around all the possibilities. May lead to too much thinking and long turns. We'll see.

A Railways of the World Expansion, this expansion has you building train networks through time to deliver goods to different locations in different periods of Earth’s history.

Honestly, my first impression on seeing this game was that one of my favorite game systems jumped the shark. However it turns out that, despite the crazy idea of building train networks through time, the game is quite good and retains the core tactics & strategies of the classic Railways gameplay while offering its own twists. Most importantly it does this with very few new rules to learn if you already know the base game.

My one complaint about this expansion is the lack of Baron cards or an equivalent secret mission per player. I miss the suspense of not knowing the winner for certain in a close game until the Baron cards are revealed. That being said, like the base game, it is still a great game that rewards skillful play. Also, despite its quirky theme, it is a good expansion for new players since the high connectivity always allows for easily bringing more cities into your network if needed which means you always have affordable options for expansion.

The rulebook needs some work, and there's a lot of confusion on the first play, but the potential for this one comes in its scale-ability. Since you add boards with players, you can easily see this one going from two to six players very well.

I'm not a huge 'railroads' fan, but I really like this expansion the best of all the base and variant maps I have seen. The only possible drawback for some is that it adds a little more 'brain burner' to the mix due to the increased number of possible city pairings. Overall, I think this was a great idea to breath some new life into a game by changing more than just the topography. (And, as a disclaimer, I was fortunate enough to be able to play test this game)

Interesting game! The Time Portals allow tremendous connectivity, which gives opportunity for very creative play. But this also makes it nearly impossible to predict what your opponents will do. It's a more chaotic game than the usual RotW fare, which I'm sure will please some people and alienate others. It's a good two-player version of RotW, too.

I won my first game by a tiny tie-breaker: equal VPs, but my opponent had seven links and I had seven and a half!

Very interesting map and I liked it better than its Age of Steam counterpart ('Time Traveler').
Clean rules, increased (but _not_ overwhelming) possibilities for creative moves. An accessible and friendly map in these respects.
The scalability is great - you just add/remove boards according to the number of players. So no problems like when you have 5 players and Rails of Europe or 3 players and Railways of Western US at your disposal...

On the downside:
- no baron cards
- no ridges are present on the boards - although they are mentioned in the rules and on the cards!
- Tunnel Engineer card became really weak: no aforementioned ridges and very small no. of mountains on the boards

I like the ideal of the game but not sure I like all the different rule changes.Still not really sold on the auction system for turn order as in the games in the series it might only be worth paying anything to go first as going second or third may not really help you at all.The boards are very nicely done though.

The whole "through time" thing is so wacky it just might work! It cracks me up cruising to the future and the past and all that. It plays really well with two, although with larger groups the multiple boards get very confusing and hard to follow.

This is an excellent expansion. Loads of lateral thinking have been added to the game, as you try to plan transport of cubes through various times, without revisiting an era. Plus, with 8 boards, and only using 3–7 per game (2–6 players), there is plenty of variety to be had. So cool!

Another interesting board layout for the Railways of the World system. For N number of players, there are N+2 separate boards, each representing a different time period. A "time wall" surrounds each board, where players can build into the wall, and then on the next build action come out of the wall in another time zone. Thus, the wall is essentially a gigantic nexus; you can go in anywhere in any time, and come out of anywhere in another time. This means the connection possibilities are far more numerous than other variants. However, players can no longer borrow other players' tracks. The play is as tight, if not tighter than Railways of Europe, and the final number of victory points is far less than what is experienced in the base game (e.g. 40-50 pts versus 75-100 pts in the base game).

The only thing disappointing about this is that there really is no temporal effects. There is nothing special about a particular time zone, other than that to qualify for bonuses, a network must be contiguous from time zone to time zone. Beyond that quibble, it is great, confusing fun trying to optimizing track laying and goods delivery.

Really interesting twist on the standard boards of RotW. The time warping aspect is a nice addon, but not overpowering to where that's all you have to focus on. Although the boards aren't wildly different, having the option to mix and match is nice. For 2 players, playing with 3 boards is tighter even than the Mexico board. The cards have a pretty good balance and some of them require urbanization before gaining points. It definitely gives incentive to sprawling out and being ready to snag those extra points.

A great addon to a great game, and probably my favorite way to play now. The only downside is the lack of secret objective cards.

Inexcusable rules omissions, but the time warpage opens up the system and adds a dash of 4-D spice.

Service bounties (i.e., random undeserved points) were always my least favorite part of Railroad Tycoon, so it's nice to see them toned down by requiring an urbanization first.

Interesting variant on the base game. The ability to jump across the maps opens up a number of possibilities. Based on the one play, I'd say the major routes are probably undervalued and you're better off shipping instead, but maybe that was just a quirk of the particular game we played.

A very cool idea, but a little lackluster. I can't quite place why this expansion fell short with my group, but it just did. I believe it may have a large part to do with how much access every player has to time travel. Making railways isn't as cut throat because your opponents can always come in from anywhere.

Not bad, not bad at all. Would like to play more to get a bit better at it. Came in second last in my first game, but could see ways to improve upon that, I spent a bit too much early on and once I got the hang of scroing some points I was a bit too far behind for it to make a difference. But had I cottoned on to what I should be doing even half a round earlier, I moght have been able to contend for first place. Also did not really take advantage of any of the bonus cards so would like to play again to see how those would help me out.

While I wasn't super excited about the whole time travel aspect of this expansion, I'll begrudgingly admit that I did enjoy our two-player game. Mainly because it is a nice tight map and you really have to race to get the good spots and major lines. Our game was competitive all the way through and it was fun. I perhaps wouldn't have been as thrilled with this expansion if we had the Mexico map, but we don't so this provides a good, tight map for a small number of players.
