This should really be 3 seperate entries as they are 3 seperate expansion packs and as such the ratings would vary from pack to pack.

The coolest weapons ever! (even if the Gatling Gun suffers from premature ejaculation, and the Battering Ram experiences erectile dysfunction!!! - but the Orc Mortar has real balls!!! hehehe)

2 - Battering Ram - Retardedly overpowered and out of the spirit of the game.
4 - Triple Catapult - Takes several rubber bands to manage to shoot anywhere, but if you are going to shoot a mess, shoot a bouncy rock and have more fun.
3 - Trebuchet - Just a catapult.
9 - Orc Mortar - Just too hilarious. Watching a perfect bounce fly over the enemy without touching them is a sight.
3 - Gattling Gun - Cannon is way too useful on its own to bother with this.
9 - Orc Twin Crossbow - Awesome, and it swivels. Like a super double cannon plus two.

So some of these weapons are great, some you just can not get to work right. The gattling gun just stinks. The double catapult is awesome. So, I would say hit & miss.

These add more chaos and fun to the Battleground: C&C game. They look great, and only felt a *little* pricey.

Bought all three pairs, and the only one I'm a little dissappointed in is the gattling gun--I have some trouble firing it. I just wish this game were less of a hassle to set up and play!

Some of the additional weapons are sweet, and some aren't really worth playing with. You'll definitely want to experiment using various tensions of bands on the different weapons to get them working optimally.

These are kind of a mixed bag. My nephews really like the Orc mortar and the Knight battering ram (which we also find very cheap), and generally don't use the others, instead sticking with the original crossbos and catapults. Except for the gatling gun, which we have never really been able to get to wrk properly.

I dont like these expansions, The extra walls were cool, but the weapons were not reliable like the normal ones, and the battering ram was too powerful, even with the restrictions. There was also more of an urgency to finish games and alot of battle chips to clean up. I own them for completion of the set and thats about it.

Actually still looking to pick up Knight Trebuchet vs Orc Mortar.

Impressive new weapons, disapointingly most needed double elastics to shoot very well.

The Orc Double Crossbow barely went half a foot and the Human Gatling didn't even make it that far. The Crossbow was easily fixed with an additional elastic, but the Gatling tends to Jam when you put an extra on making it a near useless addition to the game.

Overall neat editions but I'm glad I found them dirt cheap in a discount bin.

I have only tried the triple catapult and the battering ram so far. As might be expected, these additions are constructed fairly poorly and only work intermittently. Still they add some variety to the game and can be fun.

This expansion really helps Battleground by giving the players something to focus on. The towers have a hostage of the opposing players' team and if you free him you get an additional action every turn. This makes the game a bit more strategic and is fun to play with.

Knight Gatling Gun vs. Orc Twin Crossbow  6

2010-12-16: The Gatling Gun ( 5 ) is only allowed to fire two discs per action, but the hopper holds several more than that, for those who are just having fun cracking off shots. Unfortunately, it works about like a Roman Candle: Some shots kind of flop flaccidly right in front of it; others get some fair distance. I've never seen it be useful from any range. It's fun to operate, but not particularly useful.
2014-03-24:  3  It's pretty darn useless, except against very nearby grunts.

2010-12-16: The Twin Crossbow ( 7 ) has two surprising and nice features: It can pivot to adjust trajectory, and it can rotate to adjust aim, right where it sits. This weapon is actually useful. Bonus: It has a seat on it that perfectly "seats" a soldier. Although I didn't see anything in the rules about that, I would argue that you may have a guy on there to operate the weapon.

Knight Trebuchet  2  Let me count the reasons this fails. Firstly, its range is pitiful; it isn't set up to stretch the rubber band as hard as a standard catapult. Secondly, traditionally, a trebuchet has incredible range, precisely because of the technology used to create it, most crucial of which are the wheels that allow it not to topple while wielding so much force; this has no wheels, although many weapons do. Thirdly, although they've mimicked the look of a trebuchet, for some reason, the ammunition-holding portion is on a separate joint from the rest, which in this case, acts to reduce the torque. Fourthly, same as the Triple Catapult, when you're throwing more mass, you great reduce the range.

Orc Mortar  5  This has bad range, but it uses these awesome, misshapen rubber balls that look like boulders, and actually roll and knock soldiers over. Were it chucking pucks (which it can throw farther, since they're lighter), it actually wouldn't be as good, because the rolling boulder can be devastating to ground troops.

Knight Battering Ram  2  It can't get enough speed to trigger its ramming effect, and can't even run down footsoldiers; however, running it into a castle door should at least still trigger that.

Orc Triple Catapult  4  Probably due to swinging triple the mass, it doesn't toss 'em very far, so as long as you're aware of that, it can be a good crowdmower. Terrible for traditional catapult use, though.

COLLECTION: Orc Mortar and Knight Trebuchet

Having now had a chance to play with all of the weaponry, I must admit that most of it is fairly optional and far from necessary to your enjoyment of the game. Give props to the designers though, because there are some very clever and fun weapons here. The best of the bunch is the Orc Mortar and Knight Trebuchet. The Mortar, while somewhat inaccurate and chaotic, is easily the most fun of any weapon. The rubber bouncy balls are great fun, and add great flavor to the orc culture. The Trebuchet is devastatingly effective, much more so than the triple catapult, despite firing only two disks. This is because they fly flat instead of sideways. Serious damage can be done with both of these weapons, and they balance each other fairly well. The triple catapult is fun, though not especially effective, especially on a hard surface (the disks tend to just bounce over your target). The battering ram has confusing rules, but the pullback seems very overpowered. Just shooting the ram itself has worked fairly well for us. Finally, the bottom of the barrel would be the Gatling Gun and Twin Crossbow. The Gatling Gun is very difficult to get to work properly, and even when it does, it is basically the same as a cannon, but with less aim and two shots in a row. Yawn. The double crossbow can be effective, and I like the pivoting action, but the whole point of the crossbow is the way the discs slide and skid across the surface. Elevating it eliminates this whole aspect.

Ram/ Catapult and Gatling/ Crossbow sets. Shouldn't these have separate entries?

The double crossbow works pretty well, but the other three weapons aren't so hot. I haven't tried the tips for improving the gatling gun yet, though.

EDIT (1/2011): Finally acquired that last expansion, which mysteriously appeared at a local Target. The Knight Trebuchet (basically the same as the regular catapults, but launching 2 discs at once) is nice, but the Orc Mortar is maybe the coolest weapon in the whole arsenal. It launches these heavy rubber "boulders" that bounce through the enemy lines in funny ways. (Note: you have to double up its rubber band or it's not tight enough to work properly.)
