Really like playing huge battles. I have over 15,000 points of Space Marines, Deamonhunters and Imperial Guard to use together.

Finally a throw back to the old days of 40K, a nod to Rogue Trader Era gamers if you will. You can play huge battles, of 3000 points or more and field your entire armies, including outdated models and the like. Titan's, Superheavy Tanks etc. Whats not to like? The manual is a gem of a book, with great art, concise easy to read rules and simple yet effective data sheets for the various battle formations etc.

Superheavies are AWESOME!!! Titans and Baneblades & Macharius tanks Oh MY!~

Biiig games of 40K. Rated lower than the base game because of some balance issues and the increased time requirements.

More minis = more fun. I would love to play a game of this using literally every 40K mini in my collection, but I never seem to have the week(s) that would require...

An amazing book -- really required for any serious 40k collector. Not sure how many games of this scope I'll play, but I do admire the product and the top notch presentation.

Hardbound book expanding warhammer 40k 4th edition. Apocalypse focuses on large (3000+ points per side) games in a casual setting. The book strives to emphasize fun over competition. There are a large number of models released to support the book, including a plastic Baneblade which was previously only available in resin. This is the largest plastic kit released by GW to date.

The content is solid, but a bit disappointing for a GW product. There are b+w photo pages which is totally uncharacteristic for GW which usually has lavish photography. Eye candy is GW's stock and trade. The book has some wonderful, full color, multi-page pullouts that are starkly contrasted by the presence of b+w photo plates.

The game concept is good - get together with mates for some 40k and some laughs. However, playing Apocalypse in pick-up games, like you would for a standard 40k game should be done with trepidation. The potential to min-max/abuse army-lists is taken to new levels in this book. Sounds terrible right? Not so. If you use the product as intended, among friends, you are in for a good game. If you find yourself in a pickup game with Timmy-the-power gamer you are in for 3-6 hours of hell-on-earth. Jervis makes an interesting point that social contracts will prevent this. His premise is that a regular game group essential enters into a social compact with unspoken (or spoken) rules that underline what is and isn't acceptable in the game.

5.27.08 edit - supplement/expansion rate: 7

Marvelous coffee-table art book concealing a 40K playing system. If the Apocalypse rules are applied to regular 40K, something like a quick play system can be achieved. Anyway a magnificent graphics effort and an inspiration to players and modelers everywhere. Recommend.

Just larger games of 40k, bigger armies, bigger table, bigger blast templates, bigger kills, bigger losses, just bigger, nothing special.

A system designed for the old heads and the mad collectors. It's not designed to be a ballanced, competitive game, but simply a system allowing people to use thir entire collection, including Forge World models.

All-in-all it's not bad, but most of the time I'd prefer to play 40K.

A nice set of rules. The Strategic Assets are neat. You can play everything you own in one game. All VERY cool.

Sadly, I don't have the space for games of this magnitude nor an entire weekend to play ONE game of Warhammer 40K Apocalypse ...

... having said that, I DID buy the 'Reloaded' expansion!

Some day it's gonna be the beginning of the Apocalypse on my gaming table(s)! :-)

OK for a giggle, but there are far too many holes for this to be used in serious play.

GW's effort to to get their fan-boys to buy more toys. Who could be arsed grabbing their entire miniature collection and dumping it on the living room floor to have half of it destroyed in the first turn? Not me that's for sure and I normally stick up for GW's crazy ideas. I'm afraid this is a poor effort, but I still bought it, because I'm a GW whore.

Although Apocalypse does streamline large games with multiple players wanting to field their entire collection I would much rather play a large game of normal 40K. In nearly every game I've played in or watched the Apocalypse rules cause arguments and tend to massively unbalance the sides. It's also very disheartening when a unit you have spent many hours building and painting can be killed by a single shot using the over sized Apocalypse templates.
