Bought for $21.99 at Tramp's Comics and Games in Regina. A 2-scenario expansion on 2-sided double-sized scenario-specific maps. It came with a Troll creature. I tried it out myself, it was good. It's too bad that Days of Wonder didn't publish more such expansions for BattleLore. They created at least one such expansion for Memoir '44.

Just played the Troll Bridge scenario after painting the Troll - just great fun! I really enjoyed having a pre-printed map without the setup hassle. Please make more of these.

Finally have this figure. Will need to make my own Lair and Card for him. Marks the end of Days of Wonder's involvement with BattleLore. I thought they did a superb job with supporting the game, but I'm also looking forward to what Fantasy Flight will do with it now.

The scenarios are fun, and we get a new creature!
I´m not too keen on the paper map thing, but not insanely outraged, like some people, either... Not an essential expansion, but for what it is, it works!

As I had preordered this, I received it for FREE, as a sort of goodbye present from DOW, as this was about the time they handed BL over to FFG.

Thank you!

The only reason I gave this a 5 is because it did not come with a Troll rule card or terrain hex like the other creatures DOW has produced. Otherwise, I really like the troll rules as printed on the epic maps that come with the troll figure.

Edit: I changed my rating from a 5 to a 7 because FFG put a file of the card online that I printed out on glossy photo paper. Now it looks almost exactly like the games other cards.

a big map and a single miniature (a very small one at that for a beast) with 2 pre printed battles, one of which isnt actually playable without owning 2 of teh special troops packs!

that said both battles are well formed and in my opinion present intresting tactical problems

if you can find it on sale get it

A huge and very nice quality map. Shame FFG won't be producing any of these, as it really seems a neat way of mingling the expansions while creating a product that can be successful with those are have that cross section of expansions.

There are also wonderful opportunities here to follow a very different path with the scenario construction, terrain and story. Shame DoW was never really given (or didn't take) the opportunity to let this new direction speak for itself.

There are a couple of things I was disappointed by: 1) The flag is glued to the troll. This is a pain in the neck. 2) That there were no cards for the Troll, Stone Bridge and no Stone Bridge piece.

Scenario is good. Love Epic.

Almost all of the complaints about For Troll and Country encompass production and cost. Examples include no troll or bridge cards, the paper is too thin, one scenario requires expansion figures, and the cost is too high. I have one complaint about the production: I would have preferred only one language on the map and the extra room used for pre-printed "cards" of applicable terrain and weapon types (hills, woods, drum, spear, etc.).
On the other hand, it seems that the people that have actually played the scenarios, like myself, enjoy the product. I appreciate the fact that one scenario uses figures from expansions; I am glad that the company supported those people that purchased the expansions. As far as the cost is concerned, I got it for less than $12. That price is far less than a 90 minute movie with snacks, and I have already gotten 6+ hours of enjoyment from FT&C.
I have one thing to ask critics - * play the scenarios and then rate it *.
Scenario summary: The "Troll Bridge" scenario has a poorly balanced set-up. The large number of goblin units on the pennant player's force gives the standard player a distinct advantage. The goblin flank is easily crushed by the rushing dwarves. If the goblins immediately retreat across the river, however, some balance can be restored. "For Troll and Country" is a fun scenario, but like all single scenarios, replay is limited.

I won't rate it higher because of low component value at such price point - just one troll mini and paper map, no troll and bridge cards, no stone bridge hex, no separate small-fomat scenario sheets. So overall - not a good run for your money. Otherwise it's a good addition to your Battlelore collection - if you can get it cheap.

I have not played this yet, so the poor rating is solely based on production values. This product is hideously overpriced and is so far away from the high values Days Of Wonder put into this line that I may never buy a Battlelore product again.

$20.00 CDN for: one (1) miniature, and one (1) large, thin, poorly printed epic-sized map. No rule card for the creature; no scenario booklet; no rule cards for additional terrain or lore or whatever. Some fool decided it would be cool to print all the extra cards on the paper map, where they're hard to read and waste space being printed in a bunch of languages I don't read.

And the kicker is: the folded up paper map does not even fit neatly into the Battlelore box! It's just a few millimetres too wide, and so won't sit nicely in the bottom of my box. Bah!

This is so cheap that DOW did not even provide a card for the Troll. The Troll is so bad, however, that I don't really care bc I will not be using it. The sculpt couldn't possibly be worse. Instead of holding his weapon at his side like an axe, the artist turned it into a phallic symbol, gave him "man boobs", and actually (I'm not kidding) made the Troll wear a thong literally wedging up his butt as he squats. Is this DOW's way to flip off all the Battlelore fans for a final parting shot at us???

No tiles, no cards, an embarassingly awful new creature...This was a huge mistake. Thankfully FFG is taking over this product so it will be in the right hands for future expansions.

Looks like another overpriced piece of crap from Days of Wonder. For $18 MSRP you get a Troll mini wearing a thong that would make Paris Hilton blush and a double sided map with an epic adventure on each side. What you don't get is a unique terrain tile like the other creatures before or an individual card with the Troll's statistics. Instead they preprinted the Troll's card on the map. DOW must have thought they were being clever by doing this, but it is just plain idiotic, since they must be expecting people to only use the Troll for these two scenarios or else I either have to remember the Troll's special abilities or break out a big paper map just to look up the info. They probably also thought they were being clever in having the flag glued into the base of the Troll. What was this to save like half a second in time during setup? Instead, we now can't even customize the creature with different colored flags. Oh and did I mention it seems that a lot of these flags a showing up broken because of this?

I have not played the scenarios, but one wonders how balanced they may be and if DOW even took the time to play test them since some of the issues I have mentioned might have come to light if they had.

I really hope FFG does a better job with Battlelore because the game can be a lot of fun to play and has so much potential if you can get past Trolls with wedgies and stupid cow riding Scottish dwarves.

28.10.2009: Overpriced and unnecessary for players with the Epic map expansion. Why is this being produced? This is the first BattleLore expansion I have no desire to buy. Let this be the first and only expansion of this kind, don't buy it!

I hope the troll will be available in another expansion together with stat cards, but I have my doubts...
