An interesting return to what made Carcassonne great in the fFirst place. Strategic tile placement at it's best.

2010-04-14 (rating 9):

Great expansion. All the new mechanics are excellent and add much to the game.

Bridges ease meadow expanding/stealing. They can be used to escape blocked position however in our games this happens rarely. Mostly we use them for meadows.

Castles are not easy to use (due to 2 tiles city requirement) but are a fine way of protection against opponent building too large city. Thanks to castle you can assure that both you and opponent will score the same amount of points.

Bazaars are also fun. But not as much as the first two features. But my opinion may be caused by the fact that I have played this expansion (for now!) only with my wife in 2-players games. Also I think that normal auction would be better than current rules. Maybe I will try such variant some day.

Also it is interesting how Bazaars interact with Carcassonne: Wheel of Fortune. Now you see how the Wheel will turn and you may try to influence order of turns (by auctioning appropriate tiles) for your benefit.

A awesome game! Easy to learn many different strategies you can use. Not a huge fan of Euro games, I like them but normally stray a away from them. Yet Carcassonne pulls me in.

Simple mechanics and scoring (well sometimes ) but a ton of strategy!

After a bunch of rather stupid and worthless expansions, we finally get back to the meat of the game. This is a pretty good addition... The Bazaar can sometimes be very helpful, but most of the time it's just a nuisance. The Bridges do add some very interesting twists to tile-laying and farm formations. The Castles are only useful at certain times, but it's nice to know they are an option if you can exploit it.

The bridges are cool and provide new options for tight spaces or spots that you might otherwise not be able to connect. Bazaars are neat, but are better with more players. Castles can lead to some huge point jumps and may be a bit too powerful, but I'll have to play them a few more times to be sure.

Really neat addition. I liked all elements, though the castles can get tricky, as you are essentially adding farmer scoring mechanics to the middle of the game. It can also cause some players to get mammoth jumps (my mother-in-law got 68 points from a crappy road due to three of her castles being there).

This expansion adds a whole new dimension to the game. The bridges can help you open up a field that would otherwise have been closed off when placing a tile there. The Castles can be real goldmines, but they can also be a total failure - it's a gamble that adds a new kind of excitement to the game. We have found that Bazaars don't really work unless you have 4+ seasoned players, so we barely ever use them.

I like the castles, make more points out of a 4 point city. Bridges is another piece that can get you out of a tile placment bind. Bazzars suck, we never use them. They slow the game down and dont work in 2 player.

Castles add another opportunity to cash in another player's efforts, which is always a good thing in nasty Carc.
Bridges are nice to fix some road routes, but nothing spectacular.
Bazaars introduce auctions or drafting (as you choose) in the game to make it even more complete.

Bridges gave more flexibility in placing the tiles, so it helps prevent busy boards from clogging up.
Castles don't get used as much in two-player. Likely more of a multi-player add-on because there is more of a chance of features being completed before your next turn comes up.
Bazaars don't do much for a two-player game, but could be very interesting for a large number of players.

Castles are again one new way to steal points from other players. The bridges are the ultimate field connecting pieces. Bazaars can be dull or fun, depending on the situation. Once one bazaar tile was sold for 15 points in our game.

I imagine it's rather tough to forumlate new concepts for a game that's coming up to 10 years old but this expansion proves there is still longevity. I like the bridges and castles modules, however, the bazaars are a bit of non-entity.

If you're scoring farmers then bridges are a great twist. Some of the family I play with aren't massive fans of the bidding mechanic so we don't tend to play Bazaars.

I play this game with my wife and as of 2014, my 5 and 7-year old daughters. They are really enjoying Carcassonne although it is still a bit too much of a challenge for the 5 year old. We tried this expansion and for the most parts enjoyed it. I didn't feel that the "Bazaars" option really played very well for the younger kids. If you are good at counting tiles, then this could rule option could be critical, but with the younger kids, I felt it just complicated things. Keeping in mind though that we tend more towards collaborative game play rather than competitive. The "Bridges" is a favourite of my 7-year old and we are also really enjoying the "Castle" option.

Got tired of the Bazaars pretty quickly but they can be interesting as they add more control over which tiles you get
Bridges are a great addition, play with them every time
Castles are good. Can be tricky to pull off but are great when you do.
