Such a fun little time-filler game. So simple yet extremely fun to set up and play. The game kind of plays itself a little once you learn how to manipulate the card system (ie. play as many cards as you can every turn - refreshing your hand is the key to winning on a consistant basis). Still, it's mindless fun and was a good purchase. There are enough variants in the rule book to challenge you once you become good. Great "gateway" game for non-gamers.
Better than Pandemic in my opinion. Easier to set up, quicker to play, without all the frustrations of Pandemic. I always feel like I am at the mercy of the game mechanics in Pandemic, where Forbidden Island makes me feel like I am a tad bit more in control.
I think out of Agricola, Gates of Loyang and this, Le Havre might still be my favorite Uwe game. All three games have similair mechanics to them, but there is just something more forgiving in Le Havre that makes it appealing for me. Again, it's one of those games that is incredibly simple to learn and play, but extremely in depth and rewarding to discover once you decide your path and follow it to it's end game.
I love it !! My wife hates it. I think it's an exercise in quality design and thinking. It's extremely balanced and plays easily. She thinks it's a bit "fiddly", and she's probably right, but I think it's fun and thematic.
Mixed feelings on this one. I "suppose" it's a game, but it's kind of annoying have to pass that big book around every minute. Almost too "fiddly" for me. Not a game for the impatient style player, and definitely not for someone who enjoys controlling their own destiny in a game.
Out of Runebound, Prophecy and this, I still think Talisman has the best overall Fantasy theme. It's pretty to look at with wonderful components, and it has just enough interaction to not be boring. It's not quite what I want in an adventure game, especially with the stupid quest for the crown, but it's pretty close and there are enough cards and expansions now to give the game some good variety.
Masterful and Unique. One of the most complex games I have played in terms of strategy, yet has some of the simplest mechanics and gameplay to learn. It's one of those off mixes of perfect gameplay, simple to understand rules, but extremely deep strategy. One of a kind.
