This game is quickly becoming my no.1 favorite game of all time, all games considered, not just card games.
You wouldn't believe the amount of theme a card game like this could have. It's mind blowing. My mind = blown.
It's hard to explain but everything you do "makes sense" and feels like you're doing what you're doing. A "job" card feels like a job because after playing it on the table you can start spending precious time going to work, time that you could use for other things, just to earn some money. Or.. I dunno, Wyldside, which is a seedy Nightclub card. Once you play it your runner starts spending time there. Sure enough he makes contacts, gains resources, and learns new tricks BUT you can't choose to stop going there. You're addicted! It's Brilliant!
And each new Data Pack just makes me giddy like a school girl. The game is getting better and better. I'm so hooked!
The new board makes the game harder as there are more locations for the gates. New Investigarors and items and stuff. The biggest improvement are the Injury/Madness cards which makes this an essential expansion. If you're looking for only one expansion, get this.
Maybe the toughest one of the expansions. The Innsmouth town is a nasty place and the Ancient Ones are harder than ever. Luckily you get 16 new investigators. The Personal Story cards are the best part of this expansion as they give some tough choises for the investigators. They can also buff some of the weaker characters like Dexter Drake.
I'd say this is the best of the three board-expansions, but not as essential as Dunwich if you have to choose. Also this comes with no new items or spells so it's maybe assumed you have bought some of the previous expansions.
The Kingsport town is a bit boring place as there are no unstable locations. The new Investigators are pretty nice. Some new Heralds and a new variant: Guardians, which are like heralds, but help the investigators. New items and stuff as you'd expect.
The biggest improvement are the Epic Battle cards which you play if an Ancient One awakes.
So there's everything more but this expansion is not essential.
The corruption mechanic is nice but unless you play with the Black Goat herald you rarely get corrupted. If you do play with the herald the game gets very hard as every monster surge adds a doom token.
If you don't plan to play with the herald then don't get this expansion. If you like to lose, brutally, then get this.
This expansion is all about the herald. If you play with the herald you have to deal with the blight cards which are very funny as they drive the important people of Arkham slowly mad. The other new system is the Act cards but their threat is inversely proportional to the number of expansions you play at the time. The act cards are best if playing only with KiY or with one other expansion max.
I see King in Yellow as the best of the small expansions, but only if you play with the herald.
It's a marvelous game but I have to give it only 8 because of the abysmal rulebook. Really, instead of inspiring new players to play the game it rather drives them away. Nothing is explained, and no index. New players, read Jay Richardson's Tutorials and Eddy del Rio's EOP's (found in files).
Very thematic and true to the TV series. Humans try to survive while Cylons secretly sabotages their effort. Beware though, you might be sleeper agent yourself! If you don't like this game, you must be a frakkin' Cylon!
Nggh, I don't enjoy this game. It's either too hard for the Marines (the Invader can usually gang up on the weakest Marine) OR the Marines have managed to get such a good card combos that nothing can withstand in their way.
The additions to the base game are few but good. Makes a perfect game even better. So 10 points for that. A bigger part of this expansion are the scenario games which are pretty good but more strict in storyline as they recreate the battles from the book. I prefer the main game. 8 Points for scenarios.
