I dread the evening when my kids request this one, but I like dropping that metal pig onto other players (especially on my wife, who bought this game).

Arkham Horror (2005)

This is a *long* game (especially with the expansions), but it's a engaging and fun game, too. Probably the best adventure-type game I've played. With the expansions, it's sometimes frustrating, but that's in keeping with the Mythos theme, and part of its charm. Excellent replayability, excellent production quality, cool theme, and lots of things to do make this one of the most-played games in my collection.

(If you find AH too easy after you've become experienced, I highly recommend the expansions.)

A good expansion. You can use the expansion cards separately, or mix them in. We mixed them in. It adds to the difficulty a bit; that's not necessarily a bad thing, as experience does make standard Arkham Horror easier. The new items, et cetera, are cool, too, but some of them are repetetive (e.g. the various masks).

A large expansion, adding new rules, new cards, new players, and an additional board. Makes the game more difficult, in several ways. There are more locations for gates to open on, so it's easier for the maximum number of gates to open (awakening the ancient one). Many of the new monsters are very tough. The gate-bursting mechanic also adds to the overall difficulty of the game.

I don't consider increased difficulty to be a drawback, though. Arkham Horror is supposed to be tough, and experienced players can usually win with just the standard game. The expansions make the game more interesting and more of a challenge.

Like Memoir 44, but a bit more strategy. I haven't got to the scenarios that use the Lore rules, so I may revise my rating, later. I do like the morale and battle-back rules, and the support rules encourage you to keep your forces together. It's nice, but kind of expensive for what you get -- especially if you already have any of the other C&C games.

Wow. This is a very different approach to a wargame, and it has a lot going for it. The rules are relatively simple, but there's a lot of decisions that make a big impact on game-play. Seems to capture the essence of Napolean-era linear warfare quite well, and I like the look of the game (the long, thin block pieces, the map, et cetera). Cool movement rules, too.

I have two positive comments: my kids enjoy it, and I can count on the game ending after exactly 30 minutes.

Other than that, nothing good to say.

Quick and light, but what you choose to do still matters. Probably better with some expansions. Not my favorite game, but it's usually fun and fast, so I'd rarely turn it down.

Arrr. Just hang me and have done, rather than ask me to play this. Beautiful. Boring. Bad. It's a game of "roll higher than the other players." It's really a 1, but I gave it "plus 1" because my kids like it (Nooooooo!).

My wife likes dungeon crawl games, and they usually just make me wish I was playing D&D, instead, but Dungeon Twister surprised me. There's real game-play and strategy, here. The components look and feel good. There's very little randomness. There's excellent replay value. The best dungeon-crawl-themed game I've run across.

I like the prepainted minis, but use them more for regular D&D than for the DDM. Wish they weren't random, too.

Horrible. Nothing you do matters -- there's no real gameplay, here. Ugly. Stupid theme that might appeal to smelly hippies. My wife bought this from the clearance table at our game shop. I gave it a three because I'll play it just to spend time with the family (my kids like it).
Figaro (2006)

A very light "take that" card game. Interesting scoring mechanism with the variable-length road pieces. Amusing art. The "winner gets to swap a road piece" rule in the last round may be flawed, but is easily ignored.

My kids like this one, which usually means I don't like it. Figaro isn't intolerable, though. I doubt I'd play it if it weren't for the kids, but at least it isn't Fluxx.

My initial plays gave me a bad impression, but after some more chances, I've changed my mind about this one. Also, play didn't drag or last as long as some other cooperative games I like, which is good (I like long games, but I like shorter ones, too). I've always loved Tolkien's books, so I'm way into the theme, and we're getting a hand on the cooperative play, which is really important for this game. I've gone from "meh" on this, to "good game." I'm going to order an expansion or two and see what happens with it.

Fun. Expensive. I try to avoid the collectible card and mini games, these days. I'd still enjoy breaking out some of my Revised-period decks, though.

Decent little game with a WWII theme. Looks good. Plays fast. I like the way the command cards simulate command-and-control issues; you can't always issue orders to units in an omniscient and immediate manner.

If I'm in the mood for a WWII wargame, I'd probably lean towards ASL or Up Front or something along those lines, but M44 is good for playing with people who aren't really into wargames. Also good for playing with my son, who likes the idea of wargames, but isn't quite ready for ASL.

My eldest son requested this game as a gift. (His cousin really likes Monopoly.) Monopoly has some interesting/fun features, but you have to endure too much monotony to extract any fun.

I can't stand this game. The probabilities are set up so that no one can get and maintain a lead. If you want to torture me, bring this one out. Let's just draw straws and spare ourselves the agony.

Zombie Fluxx (2007)

Like any variant of Fluxx, it's all about the luck, which I don't like. However, my kids enjoy it, which means I get to spend time having fun with them. Our other Fluxx variant is EcoFluxx; Zombie Fluxx is at least two rating points cooler because it has zombie baseball teams, weapons (including cars), and a rule that makes you say "Uhhhhn" during your turn or suffer a penalty.
