If approached with the right expectations this is a really good game. I agree with the opinion that the Harbor expansion is necessary if you don't want the game to get boring. We don't play without it anymore. For me this is a good family game to throw into the mix, it is also a great game to secretly introduce the concept of probabilities to my 6yr old daughter.
Really good worker placement game, that doesn't bog down too much. A nice number of layers, not too simple. Right down the middle of the fairway in the WP genre...I'm a fan. To be clear it has some unique aspects to it so don't interpret "middle of the fairway" as dull or boring.
This is fantastic as a light family game. It's beautiful as it unfolds and somehow is strategic enough for competitive boys yet aesthetically and thematically welcoming to girls & wives...this is a gem of a game and should be a top 5 family game for most who try it. It's the type of game that can keep the power gamer in the group entertained without burning the rest of the family. My rating of an 8 is category (kids) dependent. In other words it does not compare to heavier games that I may rate as 8 as well.
