1.22.14: After buying & playing Caverna, Agricola is downgraded for me. Personally I'm happy to play either one, but, frankly Caverna is easier to teach/play and therefore has a higher chance of success with new players, and in my world, there are almost always new players.
8.5.13: Gric has grown on me tremendously, I do love it and will play as often as I can. I think the feel is significantly enhanced by pimping it out with either The Goodies expansion or FIMO bits.
My rating is very much related to the fact that it's a 1P game. In other words it is great for what it is and I'd rather play it than most any other 1P game with the same time frame. It's fast, short, & smart but with a serious challenge. Friday and Mage Knight tend to be the only games I play alone, obviously two very different games but excellent, one short the other long. I'm generally not playing much alone but when I do I have my go to games...Happy!
1.23.14: After one play, I'm surprised how much I liked it. I bought it because it's a Rosenberg, turns out that was a good enough reason after all. Very streamlined game with quick turns, it's a great medium weight game, which these days seem hard to come by. Also, terrific with two which is a plus for me. It has several interesting aspects including a neat (not overwhelming) need to keep your eye on other players production needs and guess which cards they may play.
Bizarrely, this, of all the games we have has been one of my wife's favorites. I realized it's great too (it just took me longer to get there), but, if ever there were a fine wine of games its Innovation and it's expansions. The first game feels Fluxxy and you may never return to it. Then you realize meh, it wasn't quite as bad as Fluxx, maybe there's more to it... Suffice it to say the more you play the more game you discover and the more you learn how to navigate the rough waters that you will encounter. It's brilliant in many respects, but it's also crazy and unique...maybe that's part of it's brilliance.
My rating relates to it being what it is IMO. A (younger) family game, and a great one at that. Beautiful, smart, simple rules set, good length. It's a top notch production but I wouldn't pull it out with too many all adult game nights, a little too light and luck filled for that.
1.29.14: What a sneaky game, this is killer and is not getting enough notice. It's slowly climbing the ranks but I predict it will break into the top 100 and stay a while. Fantastic game that delivers a great punch, I wish it were better with fewer players but believe me, if I've got 5 guys looking for a game, Kemet's high on the list of considerations...
This is a brilliant game. Very smart design, I'm amazed at the depth despite having just a few pieces. I remember opening the box for the first time and thinking "what, that's it". There's a ton of game in here and it's unique...it's high ranking is very well deserved. Great all around production and experience.
