Nice exploration game, Unfortunately, the rules are a mess and I still don't really know if I'm playing correctly. Trying to learn this game is a game in itself. There is a lot of luck involved from the card decks. I do enjoy the game, I just wish I felt confident that I was playing it correctly.

Didn't care too much for this one. The theme was there but the game just wasn't any fun. Odd production choices from the oversized dice to the card designs and layouts. Download the updated rules or you won't be able to figure out how to play. Will try again at some point but will most likely trade away.

Decent solitaire game for its time, but it's very dated by today's standards. There is still some fun to be had if you managed to digest the rules, but it just seems way to tedious to me. The game is very deep with a lot of flavor, but simple things like moving a single hex can spawn endless dice rolls, paragraph look ups and table checks. Even Combat is a chore with rolling for weapon jam, rolling to hit, rolling for spent ammo, rolling for damage, adding modifiers, subtracting modifiers, it just goes on and on and on. Modern mechanics could really make a remake of this game shine.

Very fun and funny party game. You'll have to read the judge, since everyone has a different idea of what they think is the best answer. Some will try to pick the exact definition of the word while others will try to pick an answer that could be an interpretation.

Good introductory war game. Very nice components. Short rules, written well. This is not a very deep, historic game but it still has some flavor. Uses AH's Ceasar's Legions mechanics. Stacking rules make the game unbalanced in favor of Rome, but can be easily house ruled. This is not a simulation, but it is a good introduction for those wanting to start with hex and counter war games, that feel intimidated by the mechanics of a historical simulation and the complexity of it's rules.

Great little game. Very fast playing, short rules and easy mechanics. Great introductory game for new players while still remaining fun (which is unusual in a wargame) My only gripe is there are too many colored counters, trying to remember who's who is the hardest part of this game.

Good light Modern combat game at Squad level. Rules were pretty easy to comprehend if you have played any war board games in the past. Some ambiguities in the rules over LOS and random IED's. Could have used some advanced or optional rules regarding opportunity fire, overruns ect. Overall an enjoyable experience that changes from game to game keeping each play fresh. Don't know how long the appeal will last in the future without any added rules or additions.

Not much to it. Draw events and place on appropriate location, then resolve adjustments to attributes and then see if you meet the event requirements which basically determines if your required attribute is equal or higher than the ones listed on the event cards. Then draw, place or move current character cards to new locations. keep follwing the order till no event cards are left on locations. Most cards give special abbilities and adjustments to your characters either immediately or after the event is won.

Easy to learn and play and is very entertaining. Everyone in my group that played this loves it. You must use every tile to your advantage. Try to block or add on to someone elses building, farm or road whenever you can't complete one of yours. If you find yourself waiting for 1 specific tile to play, then your playing it wrong.

Yet another great expansion or variant.First person to complete a city or road gets the King or Baron tile. The next person to make a complete a road bigger then gets the tile and so on. All roads and cities completed at end earn the owner of the tile 1 point each. Also adds some new playing tiles to the game as well.

Great game. A nice hand management game with strategy as a major component. Very easy to learn and teach. Secure resource tiles by placing settlement or cities via roads and use those resources to build more cities and settlements, can also buy economic cards to in crease resources or even an army. Enough depth to keep comming back to this game for hardcore gamers and not to complicated for the new or casual gamer.

Good theme. Heavy on luck though. Explore to discover new lslands, develope those islands with villages and protect them or you can battle for opponents existing islands. Build boats, armies, colonists, ect. Combat is very simple and a bit of a let down (1D6 1-3 effects the attacker 4-6 effects the defender) Unlike New World though, this games main focus is on discovery and building rather then combat. The game is very simple and elegant and flows very well but my biggest gripe with this game is the rules, there is a lot of contradiction and many much needed examples of play and of combat are absent which leaves alot of constant refering to the rules, BGG posts or guesswork. Even the newer rules from GMT seem more like a simple spellcheck. It might as well have been written in Latin. It took a good 2 days trying to figure out how to play. Also the game uses a "Fog of War" which just doesn't translate well into a non block game. There is still fun to be had here though, the theme is great and a well change of pace from WW II or other strategy games and it can be played in about 1 1/2 hours which is a good choice for a days session. The designer's notes is also a nice add and well worth the read.

Another great addition to an already great game. This expansion makes scoring farms a little trickier. Followers in the market quarter in Carcassonne are only moved at games end. (Although it says in the rules "when a player completes an opposing players city, road, cloister or farm" It is assumed you are using another expansion that lets you scores farms as they are formed as opposed to scoring them at games end.

I tried for many plays and many hours to try and like this game, but sadly, it's just not possible. Even when stacking the game in your favor, it still doesn't work. You can tweak it by setting up the manner the way you want instead of random, eliminating camera tiles or adding more search tiles or defense tiles, you can remove the higher number Spawn Tokens, remove 1 or 2 colors from the lock codes, make a deck of equal amounts of color coded items and it still doesn't work. It sounds fantastic when someone is explaining it to you, it looks fantastic with all of it's theme and pieces, but it just doesn't come together at any point in the game. You'll get halfway through, and then someone pulls the rug out from under you...every...single...time. High rating of 4 only because of it's potential.

Changed rating from a 4 to a 2 only for the extra characters you get for other Games in the Universe which is really the only reason to purchase this game. Quality is very high as usual for Fantasy Flight Games, but the game is completely broken as is. FF managed to update the components only. The game is broken out of the box, you can and will die faster than it takes to set the game up. Any game where you have a high chance of dying on the first turn is completely broken and untested. I'm surprised Fantasy Flight actually spent time and money to update and publish this and again in a revised edition (like most of there games that come out now) without bothering to fix core problems with the game.

A simple roll and move game. Move your train around the map collecting loads (mail, timber, steel, etc) and delivering them back the starting station. You can only hold 4 loads at a time. The first to collect all loads and have them delivered is the winner. You must move the amount on the die and cannot move backward and forward on the same turn and you must land on exact count for the load you want to collect and for your home station, this would cause you to plan your route carefully as you could derail or force your opponent to derail likewise thus losing your loads on board. The better of the Channel Craft games. A nice Tin and History is included with each game.

Great game marred by poorly structured rules. There is a gem here if you are willing to look, the reward is worth it. Lots of options for each player, some randomness from events. My biggest gripe is why they chose to have "Action" cards drawn during the event phase and "Event" cards drawn during the action phase, makes no sense. Some errata on map and counters but what game doesn't. Not too many games on this war and on this level. Has enough Historical feel but doesn't bog down game play. Can be played in around 2 hours.

This is a very simple game. Not much to do but roll and move with a few things to do along the way (steal jewels, go on adventures and buying "Gifts" from Gandalf. I don't like the use of the spinner. It's fun the first few times but is mainly for the younger crowd. It will not have any replay value after the first few games, but it's an easy game for the kids to pick up and play.

One of the better, if not best, Metagaming games. Probably would have been a full box game with even more rules and options if it wasn't too similar to War In The Ice by SPI. Definitely needed a player aid. Great game for its time.

Interesting attempt on a game based on one of the most prolific Sci-Fi writers of our times. Unfortunately, there is no game here. The end game comes down to whether or not you have a final clue number that is odd or even. Even number, you win... odd number, you lose.....yep (spoiler) just pick the even numbered clues and you'll never loose. This gives me an idea for a game, watch a 3 minute clip of Plan 9 From Outer Space, then take a standard deck of cards, look at them and pick either an even card or an odd card, repeat until the movie is over, now add up the cards total, if you achieved an even number you win, if you achieved an odd number you loose...better luck next time? Don't think so, this is a one time event as long as you don't read the winning conditions before play.

Operational level War board game. I missed the opportunity to play this back in the 80's and I tell you I wish I didn't. This game has some very well written, clear and concise rules if not the best by VG, excellent combat system and the game really captures the feel of this war while still managing to be fun and not tedious like most simulations do. Clearly one of my new favorite games.

Rating of 7 for Solitaire play only. I can't recommend this for 2 players as the Jihad players OPS/actions are determined solely by die rolls. This much randomness will work better for solitaire play, but when your playing the Jihadist side and attempting to use strategy you can be hampered by some, or in most cases, a lot of unlucky die rolls. You'll have to remember all the rules unless you download some of the user created Play Aids. These will also shorten the learning curve. Overall a strong solitaire game.

I can't believe how a game (Is there a game here?) could have such nice components, but turn out to be so boring. Absolutely no replay value. You know what rings trigger what events. This is nothing more than a 3-D interpretation of the movie. High score for quality of components.

I had a lot of fun playing this when i was younger. The cheap money was the biggest dissapointment. Seems to easy to win with more than 3 players without using the advanced rules. The luck factor hurts the smaller groups of 3 or less, especially when playing solo. The expansion levels it out a bit for the bigger groups.

This expansion balances out the game more when 4 or more people are playing. Stand alone the game was too easy to win without using the advanced rules. This adds more to the game as well as making it a little tougher to win with more players. Still fun to play.

A nice little Fantasy game. Cool concept. Seems a little easy to become powerful and thus make the end game much too easy. Over-all a good mix of completing quests, acquiring items, use of spells and NPC's. The game still could use some tweeking though on some of the elements. I have the Avalon Hill version and the rules made me feel like i was reading the rules to Fizbin from Star Trek. (You always do this when encountering this, except when you have this, this or that and only if that isn't present, unless this is there first...ect) I'll have to try the later revisions of the rules, see if they clear anything up. Still a decent game from it's time.

Good overall solitaire effort. Lots of choices you can make. Enemy instructions mechanic works well. Victory Checks seems like chaotic randomness of adding and subtracting, moving and matching just to keep you at either +3 or -3 for a win or loss. There is a lot to remember as well like when to spend, raise or lower Ferocity, AP's, MP's, Morale and Culture and games can run long. Overall, very satisfied with the game and the theme.

Good game, especially the scope of time it covers. Lots of choices and options, great map and components. It's very simple in design but there is really just too many rules and there not explained very well in the first edition rulebook. The shear length of time the game takes to play to completion, especially the full campaign, almost makes it unplayable. I like the game, but this one will be taking up table space for weeks and as a result, will seldom hit the table.

Introductory game system, very comprehensible. Combat may be too simplistic and you can have several battles without seeing any damage. Works great solitaire. Covers a few battles that still haven't really seen enough play.

First you need to download the new rules as the ones with the game will have you playing wrong. With the rules clarifications, the game is much more enjoyable. We were playing wrong for a while. A fun filler game, works well for a card game and the theme.

I love the older period style games. Bookshelf edition looks beautiful with its artwork and components. Interesting history to it. A good educational game for youngsters learning numbers and math. Very quick play, mostly something you would do when you have very little time and want to spend a minute or two on a game. I usually play this daily since it's quick and easy solitaire.

I had this game in my collection for years and never played it. We never came close to guessing any of the slang words they had listed. Most of the slang words we never heard of before. Definately didn't stand the test of time. Don't think playing it in the 90's would have made any difference.

There's actually a game here. A simple roll and move game of Exploration on Mars. You either lose or gain food, water or oxygen or collect modules (solor generator's, greenhouse's, living quarters, ect) to complete your Colony. Very simplistic.

Great Sci-Fi game. Rules are written fairly well. I just had some minor gripes the way things were worded. Advanced and optional rules will add even more depth to the game play. Very well done. A lot of book keeping during turns may deter some, but it can be done simultaneously with everyone. I also think that the book keeping element truly keeps this game from shining. Game length should also be taken into consideration as the bigger mapped scenarios can take several hours to play.

Simple roll and move game. Race your horse to the finish while making successful jump rolls for the fences. A roll of 6 makes the jump and sprint forward the full 6 spaces, a roll of 4-5 makes the jump to the other side, a roll of 2-3 doesn't make the jump, move back 1 to try again next turn, 1 makes jump but you lose turn as you fell off your horse. Kid friendly but not entertaining enough to see any play. A nice tin and history is included with each game.

I had fun with this one. Borrows some mechanics from Monopoly (except the time it takes to play Monopoly) Love the Pirate Theme. ARrrrrgg. Geared for the younger crowd, It's a "lite" game but certainly not boring.

Another early introduction to wargaming as a kid. One of the 2 wargames I was able to learn and play due to the simple solution of having progressive rules. Progressive rules folks!! Why hasn't anyone learned from this!!! Although, they did seem to learn from the unlimited stacking rule.

Great expansion. Adds new characters, items, villains and mechanics. There is a lot of dice rolling for the base game and expansions, so it may turn some people off who don't like to use dice for randomization. It's a nice overall game that has a lot of theme and a high replay factor.

A decent horror game. Run around to different locations building up your characters stats, and inventory and be the first to kill the villian. Quick gameplay, easy rules, low downtime between players. Could have used a larger gameboard, text is small and hard to read from sitting position. Also when you have this many components in a game you NEED to include character mats, the table becomes filled with cards, markers, chits, ect. It seems they learned from there last CD that they needed more ambiamce or atmosphere rather then New Age, Techno beats playing in the background.

A light family game with a Egyptian theme. Roll and move style of play, has more luck then player interaction which makes it a good family game for the kids or a quick game in between other games. I always loved the FPC games for there production values which are always top notch, This bookshelf edition as always has some nice components, artwork, theme and easy play mechanics.

Another FFG game that takes twice as long to play over what's listed on the box. It's a decent system and very simple and easy to learn but, battles can really drag the game down causing a lot of downtime. Leveling system is neat but this game Will really only appeal to the WoW audience.

Roll a compass die and a number die each turn, move accordingly. You must move in the direction of the compass die or your stuck (no wind). A lighthouse or (1) will allow you to move in any direction you choose, roll the number die again to choose how far to move. Cool theme but is worth owning more for the novelty. As always a nice Tin and History is included with each game.
