You need to be a 18XX fan to really enjoy the game and others in the series. Can be quite cutthroat, you can end up to be the president of a rail company with no cash and need to upgrade the train which will require taking cash out of your own pocket. Very devastating strategy if done right. Probably why some of my friends rate it 1. This depicts the Robber Barons aspect quite well. You need to lay the right tile and place your station in optimal location to generate the most profitable run for the company you control. Most common complaint is the stock selling since there is no restrict on amount whereas you can only buy 1 share per turn.

Fun game using the booklet system to simulate 3D combat. You can see how you end up after both of you call out your move via the page associated with the maneuver.

Having the right tiles help in this game. The key is majority ownership and merger.

I loves the changes this expansion brought to the Civilization game. In my mind, it removed some of the limitations that makes Egypt and Babylon unplayable. Calamities are more survivable and all are now tradable(a big plus). This has been one of my favorites but hard to find 6 players willing to sit down for 8 or more hrs to play it. Now I only play it during conventions.

An excellent system for tactical combat in WWII. You can simulate just about any situation completely. A lot of the published scenarioes can be completed in one sitting except for campaign like RB and KPG.

Feels like an 18XX game but with less time. Rules are a bit confusing especially on the special Town token. Like most Rail games, there is no way to stop the leader.

A race to see if the disorganzied Allied troops can hold off the German paratroopers long enough to evacute units off the island. One of the first wargames I played.

Kind of like Rail Baron for the airline industry. Dice roll can be critical to get into the hubs.

Good tactical air game. Pre-plot movement can lead to some weird situation. We used bend paper clip to show what angle the nose of the plane is pointing at since you are trying to simulate 3D combat on 2D surface.

See Airforce. Well worthwhile to get since it adds in quite a number of missing planes.

Initial rating after 1 learning game. Interesting topic and fairly simple game play. Just unsure I like this enough to play it again. Gene cards seems to be overwhelming in power if you end up with enough of them. I was not sure when to switch between predator and prey.

Rating based on 1 play at Conquest 2006. Very different tile laying game, you have to try to extend your aquaduct as long as possible but other player can hose you by closing it and forcing you to score.

Very historic. Loopsided victory for Israel until the Arab get the anti-tank missiles. Core system is good old Panzer Blitz and Panzer Leader.

Sort of like Naval War on land except worst. You built tanks(turret, chasis, engine...etc) and then try to shoot the other player's tank. Yawn.

I tried House Divided and decide to give this a try. Overall system is okay but very light. A good game for newbies.

Fun and easy game to play. I will have to play this a few more time before revising the rating. The more I play this, the more I appreciate the game play.

Typical Martin Wallace design, so many choices but so little actions. You have to sort of balance your car production versus hidden demand. I only went for luxury card & std size and didn't do the econ model due to the other 3 players all trying to flood the market with the cheap model. Ended up as 2nd place.

Great game, a bit beer & pretzel but I love to play this one. There is some luck involved since you are hoping the area effect weapon are not worthless one. If you like this one, check out all of the other games by Tom Wham.

Very good solitaire game. You get the sense of how rough it was to be in the B-17 flying in the 8th AF. A modified group version was run yearly in Pacificon(now Conquest). Load of fun as you sweat out the bomb run with at least 36 other players. Punched copy at my parent's place.

Very fast play miniature rules. You can play through in couple of hours. This is a good intro game for newbie. For more detailed treatment, try DBM.

A more detail treatment of medieval miniature combat. You get to design your own army based on points agreed upon. The next step once you have played DBA.

Got this for Xmas 2005 from my sis. Looking forward to trying it out. Heard about this at Kublacon from Dr. Knizia.

Typical Crayon Rail system. We tried with the variant Open Contract to allow for more player interaction. We played the new version which has the 4 piece puzzle board instead of the old 6 pieces. Very good strategy game on ACW. You have to decide where to campaign and hopefully get your leaders upgraded without killing them. The south have to choose their battles wisely since they don't have the manpower.

Really good game until Advanced Civilization came out. My favorite and the most challenging position -- Crete.

Good only for Civilization. Replaced by Advanced Civilization when that became avail.

The board that saved Africa which was often unplayable being last on the AST.

Rating after 1 demo. This was the game I saw last year but was not able to try out. This time around I was able to get in to the demo at Conquest 2006. Played against JaggedTech(Greg) in the demo scenario. Very tight game, ended with 1 vp for the RUSSKIES. The flow of the game works well with the card, lots of tough choices but yet played very fast. We completed in 2 hrs. Kind of reminder me of Up Front. Glad I preorder on P500. Received 12/23/06.

Played this eon ago. Very tongue-in-cheek game. Kind of hard to find these days. Finally got it at ebay 6/12/06. Previous owner had included a bunch of mini rubber monsters to represent the creatues, very cool. Going to try it out with my kid to see if he will play the game.

Sort of a pre-game to World in Flames. You try to play political action that will swing the neutral to your side. Can end up with some pretty loopsided situations.

Extremely long game since you have to recruit enough characters to overthrow the king and establish your own dynasty. Unfortunate since it looks like it has such potential.

A very fun game. You often don't know who is going to win until the very end. Some of the alliance can be quite deadly. The treachery cards make it very unpredictable since you don't know if that small force attack you is a suicide force with lazer gun & shield.

Use this only if you want to change the initial setup. The additional treachery cards are nice. Otherwise unnecessary.

This one is totally unnecessary as challenge is often overused. The 10 pt leader is nice but if he dies, so does your faction.

Surprisely playable solitaire game. Good game, hard to find.

Kind of Risk like except in China. The Ying & Yang cards add some random effects to game. Coalition victory is more likely since you need at least 15 provinces to win.

The classic cranyon rail game. No two games alike since you get different cards each time. Key is to build only enough to get cities connected and then hope to draw those runs that occurs on your line only.

One of the better geopolitcal game of the Middle Age. Trying to keep your empire from revolting is a full time job. I really enjoy this since no two games ever play the same.

Wow, great game...reminded me of a number of the Early Euro but distilled with a very smooth play sequence. Start out slow but then watch out...you start to formulate strategy and see how it goes. We didn't finish the game due to time contraint but we were at turn 5 already. I tried a balance approach in development but not sure how that's going to factor out in the end game. Will have to get a copy to try it with the local group. Upon review of rule, We didn't the action wrong since we didn't perform the payment action correctly.

We played it correctly on 9/26/09. I'm glad that it was so easy to understand even a semi-gamer like Greg's son Jack was able to figure it out. I have to find another group to try since Greg didn't like it.(kind of remind him of Struggle of Empires). Phil was concentrated on maxing out his score on the tech tree but Greg caught up in Europe/Med via attack to link up his cities plus drawing the Value 5 card to abolish slavery.

Similar to Naval War. Added Boarding party action to allow capture for prize ship. Plays better than Naval War(you don't have to worry about gun caliber).

Got this at Kublacon 2007 auction. Mainly because I owned the regular version and wanted to see how this one plays out. Played at Conquest 2007, a more portable version of T&E. Plays rather well since you no longer have to worry about playboard geography. Failed miserably with all my external and internal conflicts.

I like this one a lot since the cities are more spread out. Basically you decided if you need to go to Spain or Italy since you need all but one of the Major cities. However, you will miss out on certain delivery if you skip either one. This is the original big box 1993 version.
