Enjoyable and relatively quick to setup. Solid mix of tile-laying and bidding mechanic.

Youngest (5-y-old) likes this more. Never appealed to eldest at any stage. Handy filler for a quick 5-min game with kids.

Killed hours of my youth designing cars and getting chits blown off them (and off the table). Ameritrash at its best.

Handy filler game. Quick to set up. Played with Catherdrals and Inns expansion. Hunters and Gatherers is a better 2-player Carcasonne or one for kids.

A good intro game for boardgame neophtyes. Plays quick. This tends to be our go-to standard as the kids (4 and 5) enjoy it and understand the mechanism with the exception of the hunters/farmers. Update, kids now 7 and 5 and while the youngest finds the hunters concept a little tough, has no problem with other aspects, including the gold mountain tiles.

Great game to play with friends. Game can drag for players stuck with poor resources; basic games runs quicker and is a good intro game. Expansions give the game more depth - but lengthen the game considerably. UPDATE: This has made it out a few more times onto the table as the plain-vanilla version. Still enjoy this game alot.

Quick to set up. Plenty of Strategy. No luck. Wins the nod over Puerto Rico but both are excellent games.

The real winner with kids and uncles and it's got a quick set up. Best game for 4 year olds who pick the game up quick. Games don't last too long and everyone has a chance to win - particularly when players get bunched up (and steal each others tails). Of all the kids games I have I would say this is number 1. Update: Youngest (5) can now give her older brother (7) a run for his money. When we all play, it's nearly always the kids that win.

Enjoyable dungeon crawl romp - although the randomness of the cards can leave you with few options early on. The rock-paper-scissors mechanic is interesting fight. Prepare to die, and die often...

Great if you have younger kids as their little fingers are a real advantage. The only caveat is the egg-on-a-stick is just begging to be broken; it would have been better if it was made of plastic and not wood. Probably second favorite kids game, although I think this works better with younger children (3-4).

Enjoyable Game and good with kids. For 3-y-old it was just about moving the penguins, but as 4-y-old the basic premise of collecting fish is understood. Only disadvantage is the set up of the tiles at the start which is slow for such a quick game to play.

Plays well as 2 player. As an aside, I like games which give you the bag to hold the tiles - very quick to set up and play. Easy to learn, but enough depth of strategy to keep it interesting.

Four year-old keen on tanks and likes the dice rolling. Card mechanics a step too far; a dice roll 1,2 = 1 unit; 3,4 = 2 units, 5,6 = 3 units fits the bill with his choice of sectors. Enjoyable game and online version is a good way to learn the rules. The only problem is young-fellow isn't interested in setting up or putting game away. Update: this would rank as my eldest's (7) favourite game on his choice.

Unable to keep the kids interest. Game mechanic is good although the colors should be sharper. Of the (excellent) HABA games this is perhaps a little lacking on the components because of the board. Game does play quick. Got better when kids turned 3-4 year (give it an '8'); youngest likes to roll lots of dice! Update: Has lost kids appeal now that they are 5 and older.

Great introduction to Carcassonne with big tile pieces and a simple game mechanic that even the 2 1/2 year can enjoy (even if the simple strategy is beyond her). 4 year-old like this, but not as much as Chicken Cha Cha Cha. Kids can quickly migrate to full Carcassonne (now 4 and 5 1/2).

An excellent quick game and well suited to 2 players. Good to travel with too. Highly recommended.

Update: knocked it down as it gets a repetitive after numerous plays.

This has great pieces and a nice board. The weakness comes in the connections between the boards which need to be smooth to allow the ships to pass. My three year-old had a hard time working the hand pump to move the ships and in the end the puff count comes hard to honor.

Own the original GW version with most expansions. Really enjoyed playing this although criticism is accepted. Because of this it can get boring (and long) if you losing - but doesn't bother me!

Great board and components with a simple set-collection mechanic. Haven't played this as much as I would like - will try and push this more as I enjoy the iOS implementation.
