Great game! The theme is dear to my heart so added points for that. Also co-op without a dm gets more bonus from us. It doesn't really stay true to the mythos but just the names, places, items, etc pull me right in. Beautiful artwork and components. first time learning is a bit of a task but with aids here on BGG can be done reasonably. A billion pieces! I greatly recommend a pile of little "snack cups" for all the tokens, as well as the set of card boxes that can be "print and taped" here. Game needs a lot of room and quite a bit of time. We spread it over several evenings and all is well. Looking forward to the expansions.
Sorry if I sound just like all the rest of the high rankers but it really is a great game if you enjoy fantasy and battle card driven mechanics. We love M44 but the fantasy aspect of Battlelore pushes it over the top for us. My wife even requests this one often! (she liked M44 too) Not yet sure about the whole collectibility aspect of this but got the first 2 characters just in case :-)
A game that finally knocked my beloved Heroquest off it's pedestal! Destined to be a dungeon crawling classic! Should be expandible easily! The best mechanics of Doom with a fantasy theme! We will probably wear this copy out.
Oh man we REALLY love this game. I can see my wife and I playing this for years. I will be trying to get my hands on more cards to keep it fresh. The story deck aspect of the game is what makes this fun. The card interaction is very smooth. Theme is near and dear to my heart!
Great game. Theme and mechanics work wonderfully together. I can't recommend this game enough if you enjoy co-op games. If you don't like co-op you probably wont like it. If you don't work together you WILL NOT WIN.
My only gripe is that the board/map should have had bigger city spaces to allow for cubes and pawns to be grouped more clearly. It still works but the obsessive/compulsive in me wants each cities "stuff" inside the city...
Fun fun fun. with the right people. with the wrong people it can suck. Can also drag on into an all-nighter quite easily. 2 player can really stretch the time. more is better... come to the table with the right attitude and you'll have a blast!
