Just got this. IMO it's too pricey for such small deck of cards, & of course all 7 Wonders games are expensive for such low-quality cards (with beautiful pictures). I've been spending even more $ to sleeve the cards, but nevertheless, 7 Wonders is a great game.
These double-sided boards increase the game's longevity. Both English & German versions are identical & language independent. The translated English instructions are poorly written, but you can get help from the geeks here. I've retyped the rules & now they make sense. YOU CAN APPLY THE CHALLENGING VARIANT TO ONLY THE NEW BOARDS.
The original rules can be used with these boards alone or the mixture of old & new ones.
Might be the only co-op type of game I'm happy to play - cute, short, & simple, but it's difficult to win. Players somehow almost always ended up cheating a bit against the game - just couldn't help it!
This game reminds me somewhat of checkers for it can be enjoyed by various levels of players - both new & experienced IMO. Play time is within an hour once you learn it; price is reasonable; components are nice.
The game tends to end with ties so tie breaker is important. Hopefully its expansion "Mocha & Baksheesh" will give more variety.
Serious gamers probably won't care about the game. I like it 'cause it's simple & fun, but I probably won't play it every week.
Helpful answers can be found here on BBG to clarify some minor ambiguities on rules.
Despite its clumsy translated instructions (there's plenty of helpful clarification from BBG here), I wouldn't play SA w/o it. It makes the game more strategic. A 4-person game takes about 2 hours. It makes a good game even better.
