Sacrifice to Amun-Re which determines income your farmers produce for you. Build temples for victory points and score bonus points for meeting certain criteria if you hold a power card. I suck at this game but love it so so much. I love the mathematical calculations one must do when your buying resources.

A attacks B and now B is weakened so C attacks B in 6 player games so I'll never play this with 5 or 6. Played with 4 and it's a decent game. Finally changed my mind. We started attacking once everyone got to about 5 or 6 VPs and 9VPs are need for victory. I still wonder how this game would play out if you had to get 2 additional VPs (so 11VPs in a 4 player game). Then there would be quite the battles. Still my overall sentiment is for a game that has battles but yet strongly discourages it doesn't quite do the magic for me. Imperial now that is a game I'm looking forward to trying.

2nd Edition white and blue bought at Target $22. My sister has 1st edition which is light grey and blue. Difference as far as I could tell is the buttons and also has a blue backlight so it's easier to read compared to the first edition which doesn't have a backlight. It has 10,000 words/phrases and not sure how many the 1st edition has. It's fun to play with family members...wouldn't suggest pulling this out at game night though.

I remember winning the 3rd Grade Chess Championship. My prize? Mickey Mouse glow-in-the-dark calendar, how cool was that? Also remember in 5th grade going to a chess club and our teacher was from India. Each week one of us got to play him. I beat him and he kept asking how I did it and what book I read. I've never read a chess book nor do I ever intend to. Chess is just a fun game for me. Then I came in the top 10 in elementary school in 5th grade. The championship was organized by the librabrian a big chess nut. She had a live size board with students dressed up to move as the two battled it out. Oh yes, I really suck at playing since it's been awhile since I've played. Come on elementary students...game on. I'll play a game of chess with ya!

Absolutely love this. Ok I love this game...it's a 10. I can say that after about 30 games. Can't imagine this ever getting old and with new creatures coming out all the time it's awesome.

Rating 4 for a 2 player game Nov 6, 2006. Played with 3 and it's an ok game but which probably was awesome in 1974. It has the same cost/move as Amun-Re has for purchasing goods (3 for 6, 4 for 10, 5 for 15, 6 for 21). We used poker chips for the carrots instead of those carrot cards. Probably introduced this game as a gateway game to over 25 people and not one hasn't liked it. If you explain it well they'll get it. First game though it's just a learning to get an idea of what value of the cards should be. The values are different in a 3, 4, and 5 player game. Obviously 5 player games you see 40 and 50 million bids since it'll be lower scoring and more competition.

Blind auction. Put card secretly in the Forum and if there are just a few cards of that type collect income. Then reveal Senate cards and based on a random known card gain influence for each card. Most influence gets 3VP, 2nd most influence 2VP, and 3rd most influence gains 1VP. Just kinda way too random. I prefer to play a half-bidding game like Ys instead.

I remember a video interview (with boardgames with Scott) where the designer said he just came up with the connection costs based on how far they were in real life. In other words, screw gameplay just doing it realistically and voila and magic formula that just works.

Used to have original edition but got travel edition instead for portability. Travel one just doesn't have places to put 10 walls for each player. But it's large enough to play with. I prefer the travel edition which is 6" x 6" x 1.5". For a 10 min quick abstract doesn't get much better than this and Hive.

Initially turned off by the look of those 6 dice markers thinking oh boy here we go again another dicefest. It's not like that at all. I love the gameplay and variety. Definitely picking this one up in my next order. Only learning curve is learning the cards. The PDF rules are posted. Print out page 5 and 6 duplex two copies for both players and voila it's not a problem to reference them.

My wife and I played 3 games and I still love this game but she absolutely hates it. Weird cuz she likes BattleLine for instance.

Purely own for childhood memories. I like to play a quick track down the thief with the kids. Let them push the clue button and within 7 to 10 clues we attempt to make an arrest. So we only take out the board, computer handheld, and character cards.

More strategic than one would think. I like it...considering buying it sometime in the future perhaps. I like playing this on littlegolem.net and that I give it an 8. When playing against the AI on yourturnmyturn.com I give it a 7. When playing face to face I give it a 7 because it's takes a bit of time. I think if I can get my wife to practice on the computer she'd enjoy it more face to face.

I thought Samurai scoring was difficult to explain...this one is a humdinger for sure but great bidding system I love it. Most likely will go up after some more plays. I'm guessing 4 or 5 is best though.

Advanced version of Hey That's My Fish. Things that are similiar are movement and trapping opponents into regions. May have a problem with the endgame as it's pretty much decided solely on the last region scored. Played twice and each time it's all about the endgame....hmmmmm.

pretty for sure but not strategic enough. Two important things which aren't clear in the rules.
1. You must have a guard of your own color and either a neutral guard or an opponents guard to be able to place a thief of yours into that palace. Also it says 'next one' and one might think you must move guards in a clockwise direction if you look at the examples in the rule book. Terrible translation for sure for causing confusing. Whoever Queen had translate this game to English needs to be replaced with a translator that can convey game rules in a competent manner. Having said all this though the gameplay I'm rating it and ignoring the rules.

Great contention for majority in temples. I love capping unguarded temples even if they're only worth 5 points. Much of it is a psyche out your opponents and intimidate them.

Played with tons of people and it's a blast. Everyone from young ones to old ones can have fun. It works ok with 2 players each get 8 dice. With 3 it works still but just not as good with 4. Some say there's no control over die rolls and to lessen the luck factor just make every die count as 1 x whatever it's on. Don't do that. I say if you see a 5 or 6 on a 3x or 4x then obviously it's a target that others must take down with precision accuracy. If you let it stay on then it's your own fault for not knocking it off. I've played over 250 games of this in the three months I've had it. I love this and crokinole quite a bit. Update: bump to a 10 because for a 10 min filler doesn't get much better than this for loud fun being able to play 2 hours sessions with my Brother-in-Law who wouldn't be caught dead playing a Euro game try as I might.
