The rules summary by Dan Blum contains what I believe is an error.
It states:
Quote:
Note that there are some double routes where the two sides are of different lengths and types (e.g., between Stavanger and Kristiansand) - these rules still apply to them.
I have looked at the new English rules http://static.ticket2ridegame.com/lang/english/images/tn_rul... and they make no attempt to define 'what is a double route' and only talk about routes between two cities, which lends itself to the interpretation that Dan Blum wrote above. I have just checked the Norwegian and Danish versions of the rules, and they do not define what a 'double route' is, either. But the Swedish rules are quite explicit:
Quote:
"... Vissa sträckor är sammanbunda med dubbla spår. Dessa sträckor går parallelt med varandra och har samma antal rutor. Ingen spelare kan muta in båda sträkorna mellan två städer.
Viktigt: När det endast är 2 spelare i ett spel, får endast en av de två sträckörna användas. ..."
which means:
Quote:
" ... Certain stretches are connected with double tracks. These stretches go parallel with each other and have the same number of squares. No player can fill in both stretches between two towns.
Important: When there are only 2 players in a game, only one of the two stretches are permitted to be used. ..."
So, the way that everybody I know (here in Sweden) has interpreted the rules, in a 2 person game, there are two usable routes between Stavanger and Kristiansand, and also between Moirana and Trondheim. Filling one of them does not close the other route to the other player, but a single player cannot claim both routes, even if he or she wants to. Filling Oslo to Örebro, or any of the other "double routes" does deny the other path to the second player.
But I can see that the whole thing is still ambiguous.
So now I am curious as to what the Finnish version says. Any Finns reading this note who can comment?
