Please read this:

In 2 player games, programs such as SKYPE block port 80 and collide with TAIJI, that also uses 80 as default.

To solve this go to 'Configuration->Port' and change this value.

Tried running with WINE on Ubuntu, but none of the pull down menus worked for me, alas. I just see the window with the board but can't click or do anything.
