The whites should be lined up to form a "Y" shape, with two sides aiming directly towards the corner pockets.


The above is geometrically impossible. Relative to the center of the board, the adjacent corners are all 90 degrees from one another. The three 'spokes' of the Y are all 120 degrees from one another. As a result, if one of the spokes of the Y is aimed directly at a pocket, the other two are not.
