These advanced rules ROCK. They make the game so much funner and add a lot of strategy to the game. The regular rules give it a rugby feel, IMO, but these advanced rules really help out on giving it more of an American Football Feel to it.

If your not playing a league, you only need the first 2 pages and you are ready to have a killer new version of the game. They just add to the rules, so there isn´t too much to read, it still keeps the game amazingly simple but adds so much to it.

The league rules are also really cool, adding a lot to it. We have played a few where we roll for MVP special abilities for 1 -4 guys on our teams, adding even another dimention to the game.

All I can say is PRINT THEM OUT!

Thanks Mr. B.

WOW!
Adding just these few simple rules boosted my rating of the game up to a 9!
That's a whole lot of strategy packed into 60-80 minutes!
Thanks for the rules!!
I only wish I had morebagto share.

I know I am coming late to this, but maybe something to add to the FAQ, or maybe it is answered and I just don't see it anywhere. Can you pass/ hand off in the middle of your 3 player actions, or do you have to wait until all 3 have moved? This variant does add a lot to the game for me. Thanks.

The advanced rules seem pretty cool - but leave many questions and aspects unclear:

1) I presume blocking is not an action in the same way tackling/passing is (i.e. you can block more than one player in a turn) - which leads to several other questions A) Can a player block, then tackle in the same turn? Can a player block, then move, then block again in the same turn?

2) Related - does blocking then count as "movement" (i.e. can a player, if he starts the turn adjacent to someone, block them and then move? If so, does that count as one of the three movements for his team or two?

3) Can a player block an opponent then pile-on the same opponent as the one tackle for that turn?

4) Can you tackle more than once in your turn? (I presume not, as you state that the regular rules are still in effect)

5) If I am understanding the rules, I can block someone with a heavy tackle, then pile-on with a running back and using said RB, have a 1 in 6 chance of critically injuring. That said, if I unluckily roll a "1" for my pile-on attack, even though I go down, my RB can instantly be stood back up, as it is the end of my turn, correct?

I am not trying to be difficult - you have obviously put a great deal of thought into these rules, I am just not clear on how certain of them play out in a game situation.

The Advanced rules say "instead of tackling." Blocking is an action that replaces tackling. i.e., it is an alternative tackle.

Thus the answer to related questions you asked is probably "no"

Each figure can tackle once, but nothing seems to say the team can only have 1 tackle action. PAssing is restricted to once per turn for the team though.

Down figures get set back up at the end of their team's NEXT turn, not the current turn.

Hope this helps. I had no part in creating the rules, but my answers are based on what mrbistro wrote in the PDF.

Just trying to help explain (I think).

Seems like you can pass/hand off in the middle of your actions; 3 figures get moved, but move/action for each one must be done before using the next.

Remember, 1 passing action per turn.

Again, these aren't my rules, just my understanding.
