Very well done indeed, I'm surprised A&A has not moved gently in this more realistic direction over the past 24 years. Many variants could make the game more interesting with no great increase in complexity, but are never incorporated in a seriously upgraded game.
For Heavy Bomber tech, it's better to add 1 to the Bomber's hit number in regular combat than to have the Bomber roll two dice. Rolling two dice means the Bomber has an 8/9 chance or 88% chance of scoring a hit. Simply upping the Bomber's hit number to 5 increases the odds of a hit to 83.33%. I like this lower number, because in tactical combat the heavy bomber was not a great improvement.
For strategic bombing, rolling two dice and picking the best of two increases the average hit from 3.5 to 4.45: practically the same as just adding +1 to the die roll (4.5).
