I like many of your suggestions; they seem to be really thought out and I definitely think they would enhance the game. I'm printing off the rules and throwing them into the box for the next time the sister's kids drop by.
Glue together a few popsicle sticks and you'll have a door that can come down on the unfortunate soul with a satisfying thud.
If you lose the pig, a couple of dimes glued together would probably work, and keep with the theme.
